    Exciting TIP News

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Alright guys, hopefully this weekend I will be testing the new Tiptronic software that will be available to you all. It will allow you to hold gear without it automatically shifting at redline (very useful on the track), much more like a manual. Will speed up shifting, will improve shift quality. Results and impressions to come.

I am not going to disclose the tuner. They will do that themselves once everything is ok. Yes, both stock and GIAC have been used.

I know this TCU software has been tested on a tranny that has TC upgrades along with Valvebody upgrade, and who knows what else.. But have you guys tested this on a tip tranny with only a TC upgrade. Dont you need to re work the valvebody to get it to shift quicker anyways? Also great job to you guys for actually taking this and doin somthig with it. Been waiting a while for somthing like this

and how about on a stock tip tranny? Are shift times notably faster than the GIAC - ie. can you feel the difference?

You can do that now. In TIP mode "hold" the lever/button in the downshift position and give it throttle, it will downshift.

Alright guys, after driving around for 10 days on the new software (currently running the stage 2 upgrade) I have to say it is the happy medium for the street. Much, much better 1,2 shifts and 2,3 shift (firm and fast). Also, 3,4 and 4,5 seem quicker as well. Another noticeable difference is the downshifts, seem much smoother. Now for the good news, there is a stage 3 upgrade. This can come as a separate chip that you can easily swap out if you are going to the track. Much harder and faster shifts. Hardware is the holdback at this point. At the moment, we have not figured out how to get the car to stay in first gear when driving around. But it is an improvement from the GIAC Tip Chip for sure. All in all I am happy.

    Re: Exciting TIP News

Justin, May i ask what upgrads you have to your tranny? TC, VB, CLuth packs? I mean i understand that if you felt the quicker shifting and smother shifting but do you have increse line pressure (VB)? I know that seems to be the problem with the VB upgrade, Once you increse the pressure in the lines there isnt a way to make it decrease for city driving. Some have mentioned that the hard quick shifts was great at WOT but once you got down to city driving it was becoming a pain because of such hard shifts. Is there anything the tuner can do help out those with VB upgrades... Keep the pressure for WOT and reduce it for city driving?

This is not a recode of the softcode. The EPROM from the TCU was actually removed, read into a computer, and reprogrammed. Softcoding is nothing compared to this.

In my 02' I could downshift to first from second without even hitting the accelerator and it would hold until I shifted it out of first or redlined it. I could just stay in first all I wanted to... I did have the GIAC tip chip...

    Re: Exciting TIP News

Yeah if you have the GIAC chip or if you go in and RE-Program the TCU with vag-com you can make it shift that way. When I first got my S4 it would auto shift out of first which was ok unless I was trying to race someone from a dig and didn't get on the gas all the way at first. Now that I re-programed it it works well... I would still be interested in being a tester for this new TCU upgrade though.

Yeah. It is my company making these tip chips. We have the 2000 tip chip confirmed and working on the 01 version now. Basically the same. The 02 chip is twice the size and will be getting to that next. The price will be $399. Just ship us your TCU and we will ship it back all ready to go.

Nice. Are there any advantages over the GIAC chip? Is this a reflash or a chip soldered in?
