Help! Symphony II+ Install, unit won't Turn on =(...

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So i finally got around to ordering the adapter and harness to retrofit the Symphony II+ into a B6 A4, i went ahead with the install like this.

    1. Disconnected the Neg Battery Cable
    2. Put removal keys in old Symphony II headunit and proceeded to slowly pull it out.
    3. Disconnected all the cables from old unit.
    4. Connected old cables into new harness and adapter
    5. Connected harness and antena adapter to Symph II+
    6. Reconnected the Neg Battery Cable
    7. Turn ignition on.
    & Then... NOTHING Happens

I hear the unit doing the cd dance but neither the display nor lights turn on. Everytime i disconnect and reconnect the harness it does the same dance but no lights or anything.
    Car is an '02 A4 w/ Bose.

    Anyone got a suggestion?

    Thanks,
    Ado

Re: Help! Symphony II+ Install, unit won't Turn on =(...

    k-

First thing I'd do then is put the OEM back, just to be sure everything original still works

Then I'd reinstall as before & test

If needed, next I'd double check the cables & all connections, with a meter, even as simple as just checking continuity through the aftermarket adapter. Also dbl chk the pins. It's entirely possible the adapter is funky, maybe even pinned incorrectly.

May need to bench test the new unit to be sure it's good...

I had the same exact problem when I was putting my unit in. Turns out that the RNS-E connector by default is not wired correctly for SYM II+ units. I had to basically rewire the harness on both ends so the wires were connected properly.

I've already PM'd you these diagrams, but it'll be helpful in the future.

Re: Help! Symphony II+ Install, unit won't Turn on =(...

    Shak is 100% correct!

The RNS-E adapter is not correctly setup to plug & play the SII+ into most B6 A4's.

Its all about matching the wiring harness adapter from the SII+ to your specific Audi.

    Bose-Non Bose....
    Phone-No Phone...
    CD Changer-No CD Changer....

You'll have to move wires inside the harness, and maybe add or remove wires and individual connectors. BTDT!

P.S. Ya do not need to disconnect the negative battery cable at all!
When you disconnect the radio from its harness, power is "safely" removed like pulling a plug from a wall socket.
I've R&R'd mine several dozen times, and never once touched the battery.

Got the 4-digit security code for the SII+?

    Is the SII+ in "transport-mode?"

    Yup.

The song you're playing shows up on the DIS, but only like the first 8 letters or so. Sadly, titles, artists, etc.. don't scroll back and forth on this unit.

So i tried to do the rewiring by following the diagrams and it didnt work. None of the wires from the B connector can plug into the sii harness because theres nothing in to holes for them to plug into...

Now neither the sii or the sii+ will turn on

Anybody got ideas? is there any place or anyone that sells plug and play harness for sii to sii+ ?

    Help please, no music sucks!

Oh, as a side note -- when I was rewiring the harness, I had to move a few pins around, take some out, and even put two wires to one pin for one of them.

Re: Help! Symphony II+ Install, unit won't Turn on =(...

Here's some more onfo, given to me by others who installed a SII+:

When I first test installed my Sym II+, it did the same thing. I found that the "safe" wire needed to be connected to ground via the Comfort and Convenience Module. There is a circuit in the mini ISO connector for this connection. The wire needs to be added from the quad-lock to the mini ISO to complete the safe ground connection from the HU to the CCCM. Do you have the pin out diagram for the Sym II+?

A connection from quadlock T8h/14 to mini ISO, "Multi-pin connector III, 8-pin, (T black". T8/2 provides for the connection to " Anti-theft warning system ground from Comfort System Central Control Module J393". IE, Quadlock T8h/14>mini ISO T8/2. The +vdc "Safe" connection you refer to is provided by a jumper wire at the quadlock from pin T8h/16 to Th8/15, so that connector terminal needs to be added into the quadlock at T8h/15, with the pigtail crimped to the wire at T8h/16.

Quadlock connector. IE, from the Black B6 ISO connector T8/3 > Sym II+ Quadlock T12m/7.

The wire swap refers to the difference between the retro upgrade ISO <> Quadlock terminal assignments for the ISO <> RNS-E Quadlock adapter when used for the Sym II+ instead. In addition, the B6 ISO terminal T8/2 > Quadlock section D, T8h/14, (note departure from terminal pin ID assignment convention here,) is the terminal connection to ground at the central convenience module T20g/19, and is used for the "installed/not installed state switch for the HU security lock, is needed. Not used with the RNS-E, but implemented hard wired direct on the Sym II+, even though the pin-out on the HU says "not used". Installed in the B6, if T8h/14 is not connected to ground, the HU won't boot up. Finally, for Bose systems, Quadlock T12f/5 > ISO T8/1.

I bought my harness from Kufatec in Germany:

I had to move 2 wires, and add a wire, to get my SII+ to work with Kufatec's harness

My Harness has all the wires correct in the following images except the ones below:

    Missing Blue Wire: SymphII/ III 1 - Symph II+/ B5

    Missing Dark Purple Wires:
    Symph II/ I4 - SymphII+ / C3
    Symph II/ I5 - SymphII+ / C9

I forgot to mention I have a audi a4 B6 NON- BOSE system if that makes a difference. If i get these wires and connect them in the appropriate places will my sympII+ radio work?

Where can i get those wires with the correct terminal connectors? Does anyone have part numbers for those wires?

It's right up there at the top, take a closer look at the pics and your harness and see what needs to be moved over.

Mine S2+ doesn't work with my B6 MFSW. Volume controls actually work, but the rest dont- and the control module registers all the commands, so everything is hooked up OK.

Awesome! What do I need to change in my RNS-E harness? I plug in the symphony2+ and get nothing but the CD changer moving around. Also...do i need VAG-COM to finish this install? or after I re wire my harness it will all be plug and play?

orrrrr is there an adapter where I dont have to mess with my RNSE harness? ...like a RNSE to Symphony 2+ ....I may be dreaming

    I have a 2008 8p A3 -- the original radio was the RNS-E navagation.

Oh jeez, I have no idea about a 2008 A3. Why are you posting in the B6 A4 forum? On a B6 you have to add power to one of the empty pins, and move the K-line to a different pin.

I'll be shipping the RNS-E Harness to Ted to get rewired for the SII+ . I'd Try this myself but i broke all the plastic adapter ends off...

Hopefully i'll have the SII+ workin by 1st week of May
Ted fabricated my Sym II+ adapter harness. My adapter includes Sirius and RCA Auxiliary input. Ted will get your harness adapter sorted out for sure.

Bose setups use only low level signals from the head unit to the amps, Front R/L, and Rear R/L. Therefore, you need to add the front low level wires to connect the low level out front R/L, from the Sym2+ to the mini ISO connectors, where the Bose system chassis side harness has the wires for the front R/L low level connections to the amp. The non Bose setups use the internal head unit amp for the front R/L channels. This is why the harness adapter is missing the front R/L low level channel wires, and instead carry the front R/L audio signals on high level wires through the harness adapter. Consequently, without the front R/L low level signal wires connected through the harness adapter, there is no audio from the front R/L channel speakers. Both non Bose and Bose systems use low level Rear R/L audio signals to the rear and sub amp, that is why the Rear R/L audio channels are working.
