Representing the 4 Rings at Laguna w/ pics

Drove Laguna yesterday and today. Audi ran great as usual. Only glitch is that I cracked my front left rotor half way through the 4th session today. They were at the end of there life anyways and I beat the shit out of them so it didn't surprise me. Was the fastest in my run group with the exception of a Z06 Vette with R compound tires and a 997 Porsche 911S with R compounds. (Thank god for Ohlins and Alcons!) I let the Porsche pass then kept close to him the rest of the session. He came up after the session and couldn't believe I was running this good with street tires at 3800lbs and only 200hp. 2 Weeks ago I ran a 1:52.5. No timers at this event, but I felt like I may have driven into the 1:51's a couple of times. Everyone kept tripping out on how strong the Audi was. Most thought it was an S4. After telling them it was a 4 banger, they all bowed down to the 4 rings that ruled them!

YES! This is the kind of stuff I love to hear! I can't wait until my own car is trackworthy. I mainly want to shut my friends with S2000s up; they keep complaining that I'm "cheating" because I have AWD.

Other than that, it looks like your car is handling excellent! Where did you get that bra btw? I need one for daily driving.

I figured I'm probably around 200hp, +/-10, on 100oct at the wheels as the tip tranny and Quattro suck up HP.

18's will work fine. My stock 18" s-line rims fit fine. You just can't run weights on the inside of the rime close to the spokes. The calipers will hit them.

Good work and nice pics. It's surprising how well A4s keep up with a few mods and a good driver at the wheel. I recently bought my A4 after I got sold on the 2.0T when I watched a youtube vid from Spedee showing some Porsche passes.

What spring rates are you running on your Stasis/Ohlins setup?

I have the Stasis/Ohlins setup on my B7 and I am looking at changing the spring rates soon so I was wondering what rates you are liking for track work.

There are some new clear "masking" type material, that pretty much protects what's behind it. Those are custom fit to any contour, I think. However, I don't see that it wouldn't get beat up in the process of protecting, and I don't know what that would look like.

I'm sure some A4 owners on here have it. Ask if some will post what the clear bra's look like after a few thousand miles.

I mainly use the bra for the track only to protect the paint when the car in front of me is on race compounds. They tend to pic up rocks and throw them at me at light speed. Also works good for when the car in front flys off the track and throws back rocks. Had that happen twice yesterday. 50 rolls of blue tape work good too, but gets old applying after a while.

I also use it for long drives where there are a lot of big bugs. I tend to find that over time, it tends to trap road gravel/sand and wears the paint

If I remember correctly, 650 front, 1100 rear. 4 clicks out on the front shocks, 5 on the cans, and 6 clicks out on the rears at the track. These spring rates seem to work decent on the track, and are livable on the street when you back off the shocks.

I'm sure going up another 100lbs would give even less body roll, but I personally don't think I'd be able to stand the ride around town. Santa Cruz has shitty streets.

    Nice!
I have found that the Ohlins allow me to tune the car to rotate it at the corner entry as seen in the last pic. That pic is the entrance to turn 3. But don't let the pic fool you, after the apex its all plowing to to the rumble strips from there!

I have the 600 lb/in front and 1000 lb/in rear because the kit I purchased was a brand new kit that had been sitting around the shop at APR for some time. Since I got a great company discount, it was too good to pass up. However, we have a 2004 B6 S4 (V8) that belongs to one of the guys here and he is running close to 1400 lb/in front and 1800 lb/in rear, if I remember correctly, and his car drives like a dream. It's not harsh in any way but can carve the corners with the best of them. You can feel the stiffness but the ride feels like a Cadillac compared to most of the cars I have been in with the typical aftermarket coil overs.

The beauty of the Stasis/Ohlins setup is that they are designed to run standard 2.5" ID race springs. Therefore, you can play around with whatever spring rates suits you and improves your lap times. Of course there will be a limit to the spring rate based on the dampers and the mass of the car but if you wanted to, you could buy any set of Hyperco race springs and do your own suspension tuning. This sounds like a good reason for me to invest in a good data acquisition setup and start some suspension tuning on my car.

I think I'll finish the power mods first so I can give all the B7 customers that turbo kit they have been waiting for and then I'll focus on suspension. Don't worry guys, it's coming soon.

In a car its not scary at all. It's my favorite part of the track. On a motorcycle, scary as looking over a cliff. Same with turn 9 coming off the corkscrew. It's a super fast off camber left hander. Super fun in the car but super scary on the bike.

1400 & 1800 sounds insane! I know the S4 is heavier but I think Jason told me a while back that the Speedvision cars run around 1200 in the front and 1600 in the rear and when you push down on the fender, they are a rock! Are you sure that spring rate is correct?

The car Mike@APR is talking about is Stephens old B6S4... He was running 800 front and 1300 rear.

That sounds way more realistic. I'll be calling you tomorrow about new rotors!

Jason: one of the sales guys owns the car now and when he told me the spring rate numbers I was like [O_O]...

I guess he was misinformed which made me misinformed. Thank you for clearing this up. I can't believe you remember his spring rates. Still, the car drives like a dream. I love it and I love the Stasis/Ohlins setup on my B7 2.0T. I'll be sending you my center diff shortly.
