    Question vibration?

Hi, I'm new to AZ and I must say, this forum is really helpful. I have a 2004 a4 3.0q 6spd. I bought it used at 60k. When my coilpack went out I was like WTF but I fixed the problem thanks to you guys.

    1. Heres my most recent problem with my car. At first there was a slight crick sound I guess you might say, when I start the car, put it into first and go. But that sound only happens ONCE which is when I start the car and go. Now, either I'm just being more sensitive to it or not, the sound seems to be louder. It almost sounds like something just momentarily grinds and then its all good. Also when idling, the car has a slight vibration to it that comes and goes. I'm guessing its the motor mounts or the tranny mounts.

    2. Heres the main part that worries me: while releasing the clutch to go there's this vibration that feels like maybe the clutch is slipping or something is off balance, but when fully engaged it feels smooth again. Next, as I stroll down the road and I slow down for a stop sign with my foot off the gas the VIBRATION is back again. [O_O]

other than these minor(I hope) problems I love this car.
Please let me know as to what the hell might be going on?

    Re: vibration?

I have a 1.8 and also have the "crick". I have not been able to figure it out yet. I also have a vibration at idle, worse in cold weather, but a simple increase in idle of 50 rpm and the vibration goes away. My motor mounts looked fine, but they have only gotten a visual inspection. Have not looked at transmission mounts.

I don't have the clutch vibration you speak of. If you also have a rough idle, the vibration you get coming to a stop is probably happening when you put the clutch and the engine returns to idle as as you brake and slow down.

We will see who can figure out what it is first.

    Re: vibration?

yeah. its always when coming to a stop or just letting go of the gas and staying in gear makes the vibration. when the car is slowing down from 3000 to 1200 theres this vibration like the engine is wanting to jump out of my car, but when i hit the gas again its all gravy. i guess im always just going to have to gun it everywhere i go or find out what the real problem is somedays my baby is fine though. Recently I've started a ritual type thing: step in car, put key in ignition, beg the car to not let me down for the day, and GO.

Drive the car hard for 1-2 min. Do this next part in a parking lot. Try putting your car in 5th from a stand still, slowly release the clutch with no gas, if the car shakes and stalls hard your clutch is fine, if the car doesn't stall or takes time to stall your clutch is going.

Glad I could help. I drive an automatic now, but when I had a few standard cars, I always updated to a nice Spec Stage 2 clutch. Everyday drivability feel that uses Kevlar for nice performance.

    Re: vibration?

    Technically it's a "klick".

If it were a Japanese car it'd be a "crick."

Check your motor mounts, especially your snub. If it's still stock it's probably the consistency of pudding by now.

    Re: vibration?

Are you sure youre not releasing the clutch too far past the engagement point?

But is the clutch slipping in high rpm when you gun it?
