    Avic-Z1/avic-z3 installed

So i figured i'd post up how the installation of the unit turned out since some of you were asking how it looked or were unsure of the result.

Its an avic-z1 with a z3 harddrive from ebay, the only difference between the z1-z2-z3 is the software, so by upgrading the HD you get all the new stuff.

I got it installed at a shop because i wasnt patient enough (or probably knowledgeable enough) to do it on my own.
it has the following "add ons"
    Ipod
    bluetooth
    backup camera (not wired yet)
    XM w/ navtraffic (77$ for a year!)
    40gb drive

and i did the bypass today w/ grimlock who also has a b6.

here are some pics...let me know if you have any q's or want any other pics, i'll try to help.

this last pic shows the microphone installation (top left corner of the pic).
    everything works great :)

sorry the car is so dirty, the weather in the PNW has been fucking terrible.
I noticed the camera flash made some of the colors not look good on the trim, but in person it looks very close if not spot on. Grimlock on here can also chime in with the fit/finish being pretty snug, but daylight pics probably would have worked better.

i had mine payed for and installed for around $850, but i also had a sub/amp put in at the same time which brought it to $1000.

very nice install man, i still need to do the bypass and dim features. can you shoot me a link to tackling these? i dont remember where on avic411 they were.

Looks great, but the pics suck. I really want one of these myself, but most people's pictures on here do not show how well it matches up with the OEM trim. All the pictures look like they don't match.

    Re: Avic-Z1/avic-z3 installed

The colors dont look like they match because i took the pics at night w/ flash, i can take some daylight pictures once the weather here clears up (this weekend).

I got the unit + all the addons for 900.

The wire bypass was pretty easy, ground the parking brake wire, and move one wire on the back of the unit, i can send you a link if you want.

i love the harddrive, it makes it worth it for me :)

Yea, the unit looks spot on . It pretty much looks as OEM as you can get w/o going RNS-E. The wire bypasses weren't too tough, just make sure you have a small socket or wrench that will allow you to get into small spaces. If you're looking at an aftermarket in-dash NAV unit I'd highly recommend this one
