What heads can go on a 06A Block?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I decided to go 2.0. I have the option of picking up a beautiful block that is already honed and such and aba crank for about $300. I would like to know what heads can we run in our cars. Are we limited to AMB heads or what? Looking to do this the right way and build the motor and slide it in and take the other one out. I looked in the tech section but cannot find it so don't flame on an OG, I know the rules.
    Thanks
    -Jared

If you don't care about removing the SAI the AEB head will work.

Re: What heads can go on a 06A Block?

I think just about any head will work as long as it contains variable valve timing. I'm using an AMU head on my 2.0L build. Only thing I have to swap over is the cam tensioner solenoid.

Rip the SAI out anyway. Its worthless and easier to tune without it.

For the SAI is there a way to block that code from showing up. I live in the facist state of VA and they do emissions every 2 years. I have one more year living in the shit hole before I move out.

Also for that AMU head, its small port I was wondering if you are going to port match it to the gasket and the intake? What would running an AEB include?

Re: What heads can go on a 06A Block?

The only thing that will come up on emissions with SAI is the readiness check code. For OBDII vehicles this will show up when they plug the car into the computer. You can also see it via VAG-COM. I have the readiness code permanently set to "Pass" so I never get a MIL. Mark@ASP will do this for you if you are running his software.

I will be gasket matching my ports on the AMU head.

wow you are up early. I looked around and I could go with APR and ASP. Prob is that I will be running Revo so I guess I have to send it to APR to get flashed.

SAI takes a lot of useless crap out right?

question -- if i have REVO eliminating my CEL/Readiness for the CAT, as long as i clear the ECU before getting my car scanned for emissions (no CEL, 1 readiness still not set because of SAI) I should still pass right?

I thought we were allowed 1 readiness code to be "not set" or w/e it is.

Re: What heads can go on a 06A Block?

Daniel, It depends on the state but I think you are correct.. Can still pass emissions with one readiness code not passed. However, I don't think you'll pass if your CEL is on regardless of anything else. Then again, that's my interpretation and I'm by no means an expert with DMV. In fact, DMV gave me an expired temporary tag yesterday to get my Jeep up to CT. The dumb fuck stamped 4-2-08 instead of 5-2-08. Now I have to go back and waste yet another hour or more this week in that damn place.

Jared. I'm not sure if APR will do it for you if you're not running their software. Chris (dirtybrd) was looking into this. Might want to PM him.

    Time for work. Cya.

if you clear the codes out of your ECU right before going to get a sticker there will be NO readyness monitors set. they will all say 'incomplete' or 'not ready'. thus, you will fail. if the light is not on, ide say gamble and try to get one. in MA we are allowed 2 readyness monitors to be in the 'not ready' or 'incomplete' state and can still pass.
