    i know there is a couple of ecu number for the audi 1.8T... i have a 97 auto...could i use a chipped one from a 98 manual even if its not the same number ??? can it be recode to work with my auto ???

    if it help the chip is giac

    Should work no problem. Just need to recode it for the transmission, etc.

    You should VAG your car and find your code - you should be able to just insert this code in to the new ECU once it is in place.

    You'll need to vag the ecu and change the coding so that the ecu looks for a transmission controller. I had the backwards problem, my software came out of a tip car and went into my 5spd. I had a check engine light for an open circuit, which literally was for the actual check engine light bulb, found out that it was really looking for a transmission controller.
