    Interest feeler: True RAM AIR

If I could develop a ram air set up that utilized a direct path straight into a stock airbox that uses an AWE Style ITG open element filter would there be interest? It would be a permanent mod and would render your passenger side Highbeam inoperable. It would seal up for rain and then simply use the stock air duct. Pricing would be fairly cheap too.

Interest, comments, horrible idea? I'm half way there....

maybe for the hardcore, but i'd never sign up for something that:
    1. took away stock functionality in the likes of a high beam, and
    2. required manual adjustment for rain / no-rain.

    just my 2 cents.

Im planning on making just a drag setup. Im going to totally take off the airbox, and route tubing right off the mass air flow back to the a custom headlight with a filter on the end. If you wanted to get real hard core, just run a tube off the maf to a hole in the headight and put some screen on the end.

Mine will be in between hardcore and daily driver. It would be as quick as walking to the headlight and pushing in a plug if it were raining/snowing and you would instantly have oem intake again. Pull out the plug and add 50-75% more air instantly.

How about angling it so that gravity works in the favor of keeping water out?

ITs been done. Its easier to just pull the headlight on track days.

Unfortunetly, there isn't really room or appropriate angles to make that work. A simple plug will put the setup back to "stock mode".

The prototype is coming out really clean. Unfortunetly, the headlight is not so it still needs some tlc.

I did it on an extra Ecode I bought from a dishonest seller here who sold me a funked up light with the chrome on the inside coming off. I figured this would be the best light to try it on.

Well no, not really. It wouldn't be easier to pull a headlight than take 5 seconds to unplug a hole, but I get where you're going with the argument. Running an open element outside of the airbox and pulling a headlight is also very different than running an open element inside an airbox and plumbing only cold air to it whether it is sitting in line at the track or racing down the 1/4 mile.

I have always steered away from the true open elements that are exposed to the hot engine air. Pulling the headlight gives a blast of air while driving but does little to nothing while idling. You're still going to be sucking in hot air until you get up to speed.

Please correct me if I'm wrong.
