    Prepping for GT2871R install day.

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So i'm prepping to install a GT2871R turbo with accesories

I have a few questions. What bolt sizes (pitch, length, thread size) does it need to fit turbo to test pipe and manifold to block?

and I probably need a boost controller, so would the picture below be sufficient, too much, not worth it (70 bucks)?

And one more thing. Is the thing in the middle below a FPR???

Re: Prepping for GT2871R install day.

not sure on all the bolt and stud sizes, sorry. if this wasn't my last post of the night/morning, i'd look them up for you. but someone will know shortly..

that MBC should be fine. 70 bucks is about what you should expect to pay for a new one. i run the forge MBC here------->http://www.forgemotorsport.com/conte...product=FMUNOS. but if you're planning on doing your setup right, i would spend the extra cash for an electronic boost controller.. on second thought, is that an EBC? used obviously?

and that thing pictured is the MAF sensor. it's the element itself. it bolts down into the housing

Re: Prepping for GT2871R install day.

Eventually I am going to get an EBC. I want to play around with the manual one first to get the hang of things first before I forfit my mortgage this month. I'm a virgin boost controler, controler.

One more thing... what would happen if I ran a stock 4 bar(?) FPR on a Mika tune with 550's. and what FPR is required for a GT2871R with Mika tune?

I think the test pipe I have, has a hole in it for a wideband. I might have to invest in one of those. What's the most practacle wideband to buy and where?

So if the purpose of the wideband is to detect if your running too lean, and that's been the problem. Can't you just ajust a few points to the rich side to be safe? I guess you have to know which 'blocks' to ajust. (i know nothing about ajusting blocks fyi) Guess I better hook up the vagcom and get check it out.

Real quick. the guy I bought my kit from forgot to give me the FPR.
Where can I get one sent to me ASAP. I assume I need a 3 bar ajustable version? or would the stock one work for a short time?

for anything using a tune with bigger than stock injectors, its def good to have an adjustable fpr to tweak the fueling a bit

Re: Prepping for GT2871R install day.

I am no expert when it comes to engines or turbo set ups. But reading feedbacks from individuals, one thing I learn is to ditch the Mika tune asap.

I have maybe come across 3 good feedbacks of them and all others say to either stay away or complaining about how thier setups are giving them problems. As soon as someone asks what software they are runninng and the op says Mika, the immediate answer from people is to ditch the software.

Go with CTapp or Unitronics. my 2 cents.

*Yes, this was learend by forum info, so is not always 100% accurate

i think your talking about lemmiwinks, where u can tweak your setup. but since your 99 you are dbc which cant be tweaked by lemmi. only dbw cars are able to do this

I just looked at the ECU again, and in small letters it says it's for an Elim kit anyway. So who's got the website for Ctapp?

not trying to be an ass or a know it all, but it sounds like you have a lot to learn about setting up a bt on this car. Definitely props for going bt though its a must with these cars. Just need to know that the tun is everything, qnd many a people have gernaded their engines with that mika tune.

Hey, the bolts are 8mm 1.25 pitch i believe, you need at least 1.5 inches and some good antisieze paste , use some copper nuts and hardened studs. If you have any questions feel free to ask . Looks like you are off to a good start though. Hmm unless you are piping in the pcv stuff into your intake, you might need a catch can setup.

^^ Yeah, I do have a lot to learn, I've been reading a LOT about installs within the past couple of days. Something I haven't came across yet is a list of must have accesories that go with a BT.

So far a list of must haves are...

-3 Bar FPR (Ajustable is better, not that I would know which way to ajust.)
    -TIP
-3" MAF sensor for 550's and 4" for Ctapp with 630's.
-Map sensor (not sure if this is a must have, somehow I got one with my kit though.)
-Boost Controler (EBC is the way to go for BT.)
-Wide band to check your Air Fuel ratio

    Anything else?

I actually am trying to trade up for the Ctapp software even though I wish I knew more about tuning to make the Mika work flawlessly.

Since you have the Mika tune, I am going to assume you have the eliminator set. But if not, here are two things copied from Audiforum.

The elim version of the GT2871R. Has the 71mm compressor wheel found in the 2871r but a smaller turbine wheel and uses the stock k03 flange. You will need the turbo, oil lines, exhaust, Tuning (Uni/CTapp), 440cc Injectors, VR6 MAF, AFPR, MBC, Exhaust, FMIC, Clutch (stg 3 or higher), and TIP. And you'd want to end up getting a new manifold, but then why don't you just buy the full 2871r?
    GT2871r
Now we're talkin serious power. You have pretty much 2 options. The .63/.64 A/R or the .82/.86 A/R. The .63 and .82 are T3 flanged, and the .64 and .86 are T25 flange. T3 flows better. With the .82 you will have more lag, but more topend power. You also will not have to swap out rods. With the .63 you will have much faster spool (20+psi before 4k), but you will have to swap out rods. You will need Tuning, Exhaust Manifold, Custom Intake, VR6/Ford Lightning MAF, 440cc/630cc Injectors, AFPR, MBC/EBC, Exhaust, FMIC, Clutch, New Mounts, and Walbro 255.

Its not an eliminator. You can tell that the turbo uses different downpipe flange.

hmm.. while i certainly am not intending to endorse anything, i also wouldn't be talked out of much by a few guys regergitating forum-lore [no offense as they're trying to be helpful]. for whatever reason the mika s/w gets trashed here, altho in a few years of lurking i've read few [no...?] actual 1st hand bad results.

at least, looking at this thread there isn't enough real information to make any kind of educated decision. 3 or 4 "dude, like i heard this one guy, on audiforums... blah blah" is hardly conclusive. i guess my point is that you should do more research before you go off buying / selling. get 1st hand info, talk to people that have used / sold / loved / hated it.

fwiw, i know the guys at 034efi sell + recommend the atp/mika setup and claim to have had good results.

Yeah I noticed 034 has the same thing as ATP but they dont mention mika. Is it the same thing? People seem to praise 034 and dislike ATP but yet they are selling the same tune. Too many people just like to conform in my opinion

Yeah, I'm sure the Mika tune is fine, otherwise reputable distributors wouldn't sell it. I actually might try it out if my tuner takes much longer. I've had all the parts now for a while and I want to get this thing bolted on before the summer is over with.

What do people usually do when they say their Mika tune is "Tweaked"?

'tweaked' could mean anything. most likely something simple like a change in fuel pressure, injector size, boost control settings, etc.

When reading the forums you have to know who you are gettin information from and who heard it second hand and regurgitated it to you.

There are several knowledgable people on the forums with respect knowledge in different areas of performance.

There is alot of bandwagonning that takes place in here.

Re: Prepping for GT2871R install day.

As for an Update... I had to scrape this putty crap off of one of the extra bung holes so i can plug in the wideband eventually. Besides that, I think i have all the parts I need for the install. I'm just waiting for my tuner to get the chip he needs to flash and it's taking for-ev-er.

It was on there pretty good and needed to take a drill and then a pick to it.

As for the turbo. here are a few more detailed pics. I hope it's a GT2871R

Re: Prepping for GT2871R install day.

Something tells me that turbo is bolted onto the manifold upside down.

Is that the oil feed or oil return line next to the wastegate? The hard line. The oil return line (which I think it is) should be pointing down towards the oil pan.

You are also going to need a bung on the intake side for the N75/EBC vacuum connection. Its probably easier to fit it onto your charge pipe for the intercooler (the hard line you will connect to the turbo compressor outlet)

    EDIT:
    like this: http://audizine.com/forum/showpost.p...8&postcount=83

and my old 28RS (and new 2871R) will be tapped like this: http://audizine.com/forum/showpost.p...5&postcount=84

It is the correct way. The hole for the optional external WG is on the bottom of the mani when installed.
