How much to install rods?

1. So say the motor is already out of the car and I take it to sombody to have them install the rods and do whatever they need to do, about how much should the labor cost?

2. I've heard conflicting things about the motor needing to be rebalanced when replacing rods. Some say it's unnecessary, while others say it should be rebalanced anytime you switch out stuff. What's the word?

3. Do I need to buy any other parts that don't come with the rods purchase? I heard some say rings and other stuff while others mention nothing. 53k mi on the block FYI.

Since you said no to #2 (needing the motor rebalanced) I assume your couple hundred bux estimate is just for installing the rods then? How much to rebalance the ish as well?

Yeah I got quoted 300 bucks for labor if I brought them the rods and engine on a pallette

I thought when purchasing rods, specfically forged rods that are lighter you need to get the engine balanced?

Does that $300 include balancing? Are you getting rings/bearings as well?

Hey mike,

I'm paying 175$ to get it balanced local. This includes the installation time.

They charged me 25$ per cyl to bore it out to 82.5mm

You will need ne rod bearings for about 135 $ and trust bearing.

But once you there have it honed and check out. I would have em dismantle everything hone it and put som new rings and bearings.

Total should be near 500$

Balancing with the crank pulley and the clutch assembly is an extra safety for those who want to revv it higher.

How high do you think one could rev with rods and stock heads/valves/cams?

Max 7500 rpm, cause the weak link is now your valve springs and retainors.

With springs and retainors, a hair more than 8k
