    Quarter Mile Results...

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So I was able to go to the track finally. This was my first time and had a blast. They didn't have a scheduled test & tune yesterday, (RT66 Speedway, Joliet) so I joined the Sportsman bracket racing. Lost my first dial-in match because I jumped the gun and red lighted.

    B6-S4 MT6. On 93 octane, GIAC, & GoodYear F1's A/S on factory wheels - 13.8 was my best. 60' foot time = 1.895

    http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/k...eslip42008.jpg

I was hoping for better results but that's all I was able to do. Screwed up shifting from 3rd to 4th 2 out of 4 attempts...shoft thrower/shifters make more sense now :) I'm researching density altitude atm - several people in the staging lanes were saying it's hard to get great times in Illinois - Texas is a great place.

Anyone in Illinois willing to share their results?

That trap speed seems really low.

    What were the conditions like?

    Re: Quarter Mile Results...

yeah..your trap speed is low...maybe your shifts weren't good, but your 60' time was good. With a launch like yours and nailing the shifts, you can trap about 101-102mph, which will probably give you around a 13.5 QT

thats why its all the same a 13.8 and your 13.X in texas is really the same. so it doesn't matter. its just a number. and if you posted a 13.2 to feel better about yourself and than ran for giggles in another state with 60ft, being the same, trap speed, etc. etc...and you get a 13.8 out of it. its all the same. not sure how you miss 3rd to 4th. its straight down

short throws for me throw off my whole shifting. practice makes perfect. i'm sure you'll get your times down to say mid 13s.

3rd to 4th - yep, not sure why I screwed that up twice. It felt like I was hitting whatever is physically between 4th & 6th. I was definitely nervous...while staging, my damn foot was shaking on the clutch :) I'll keep practicing and take deeper breaths /flex

Google'n "density altitute", I came across this on a mustang forum...it looks like several people are trying to see what their time would be based on different altitude/weather...

I believe it was a early 70 challenger. REALLY nice. He probably hit the brakes near the end to make sure he stayed below his dial-in time for the bracket racing.

I might have some times to share - weather dependent, this coming Sunday. A buddy of mine and his V-Dub posse are heading up to Union Grove. Showers are in the forecast but we might get lucky and have a dry day.
If it happens, I'll post the slips- If they are not to embarrassing, ha!

Awesome, good luck with weather. I think I'll go to Union Grove next time - I heard you don't have to wait so long between each run there. Any mods One-nuT?

Just the basics so-far; Milltek full-back exhaust and a hyperflow intake. Almost forgot, some heavy-ass RS4 reps in hypersilver. I've been curious if the mods make any difference down the 1/4 but regardless, the sound is pretty sweet and it makes the whole driving experience better.
BTW, the venue has changed to Byron (near Rockford) on account of Union Grove not being available that day. Won't know till Sat night whether or not we're going. Peace.

ditch the hyperflow and put the stock airbox back on with a k&n panel filter. good luck with the runs. hope to hear some better numbers out there for IL B6 S4s. if i wasn't lazy enough or if i really cared enough...i would do it. but i don't so i'm not. when i live on the north side....going to great lakes with my neighbor and his 399awhp/401atq wrx was fun. but since i'm in the middle of both...both are to far for me to care if my car runs a 13.5, 13.2 or 14.0. i'm sure its just as solid as the rest of them.

Well, I got the call last night that the track thing was off due to impending precipitation. Hoping to get something together for mid to late May. Ill due some research and see which of the three tracks near the chi offer "test and tunes" in the near future and post back later.
Time slips notwithstanding, It will be a good opportunity to meet up with other members of the community and have some fun in the process.

Sounds perfect One-nuT. I'm looking forward to it.

It will be cool to see more than 1 S4 at the track; let alone meet the other fools in love with this car :) Surprizingly, when I went to Joliet a couple weeks ago, not only was I the only S4...I was the only one sporting a German car.

    Re: Quarter Mile Results...

I checked out all three tracks within 70 miles and most test and tunes are on weeknights at this point. Ill call up the tracks tomorrow and get some more info but it looks like putting together a Saturday track day will be tough. Byron is the best option so far if a late afternoon start works.
Once I get some solid answers, Ill post a couple options here and elsewhere in the forums. The more Audi's, the better!

you know there are a ton of variables. i think the average is around 13.6-13.7...maybe even 13.5.

so far i've only seen 2 lower times. everyone else seems to be mid to high 13s. car is still 4000lbs with driver in it. so thats not light by any means.

plus you have humidty, elevation, actual condition of the track, track conditions, and we could go on all day. comparing across states is just silly though. i wouldn't get too focused on times. it can give you a ball park...but only on that day, at that time, at THAT LOCATION. maybe people in texas run 13.5s all day long. maybe people in FL run 13.2.

sure there doesn't seem to be any real mods that give us any usable gains ET wise...but i think 90% of us knew that.

a 13.7 at joliet raceway is = to a 13.59 at sea level

this is by no means a concrete thing.

joliet race way is 536ft above sea level. ATCO in NJ is 90ft. so they are gonna run faster times there.

Out of curiousity where are you getting that correction from? I always referenced the NHRA ones but I dont think they consider anything under 1700ft an altitude facility. Just curious bc I did my time in Kentucky at 630ft. Thanks, Mike

the link has the correction in it. just scroll down a bit and look for Adjusted ET Based on Altitude. plug in your run at your track you did and then it will correct it to sea level.

i found the altitudes of the racetracks from their respective websites.

so your 13.2 run was in Kentucky? if so, props, but so far i've only seen to people run better than a mid 13 or high 13s. thought it was in FL...and i know some of the tracks are 90FT above sea and close to if not sea level.
    have you run in FL?

i know my runs against people are hardly scientific but the last person i ran with full exhaust and custom tune was not faster than me and we stretched it up to 130+MPH...you would think he would pull at some point from a 55-60mph start. 400HP GTO would do it...all i see them run are low 13s. easily faster than me. 350HP GTO is slower than me. i've run 2 different guys now.
i've also run 2 different S4s. i am going to now run TEK and see what happens now if 3 s4s can't beat a stock S4....i'm going to have to say the mods aren't helping the quarter mile time improve, sure dyno numbers may show up but its not in ET. and as i post the last one i did with MLR was a bazillion runs, with all kinds of different scenarios. you would think it would post a faster time. if anything i was slightly faster.

i found the altitudes of the racetracks from their respective websites.

so your 13.2 run was in Kentucky? if so, props, but so far i've only seen to people run better than a mid 13 or high 13s. thought it was in FL...and i know some of the tracks are 90FT above sea and close to if not sea level.

I hear yeah. Yeah, my runs were all done at Mountain Parkway in Kentucky. Truth be told unless we're at 5000ft i didnt mind running at a little elevation at all. You run in 70% humidity in 99 degree weather in Florida and i'd wish i was in Kentucky. It seems the fastest tracks people talk about are in the northeast. Maybe Mike Hood from this forum can speak bettter to that bc he really knows the field. Tek4ever got a sweet 60ft time. If he put on an exhaust I bet he could trap a couple mph faster and maybe down .3 or so. I think the high times posted by other members is bad shifting (shifting at 6000rpm) and bad launching (>2.0 sec 60ft times). I dunno though. There's always variance.

    cheers! MIke

yeah florida has some bad conditions...which are very similar to our conditions here in chicago, IL in the summer. feels like 110% humidity and 99 degree days. which is not the best to make runs and tell the world about.
i don't mind running at any place...i just don't feel that people should be comparing times. wondering why i'm not a 13.2 car or 13.3. there is just so many factors. but props to you and your run. its a good time...i'm curious to see what an FL time would look like compared to your Kentucky time.
