Quick question about Stasis StreetSport coilovers

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I'm putting these on myself tomorrow, and I have most of the details sorted out except for one thing.
Are the Koni struts included supposed to extend out of the damper by themselves? I can push the strut rod into the damper, and it will just stay there, no rebound or movement by itself. Is this normal? I know some struts come locked from the company, is this the case on the StreetSports?

Re: Quick question about Stasis StreetSport coilovers

My last Koni's did that too... and I wasn't sure either, because the only point of the shocks is to stay in one place and keep the springs from bouncing, so they should be 100% fine as long as there is a lot of resistance when you try to compress or pull the shaft out.

Maybe that's their way of function properly, but being able to "sit" at any height since the springs are height adjustable. Because think about it... if they extended out on their own to sit at one specific point, and you wanted to "slam" your coilovers, those shocks would be very compressed from where they should be... Thats how I think of it
    Ignorance is bliss.

That is true, I didn't think of that. I was simply concerned, as my Tein Basics for my old tC would self-extend. But then again, those were back-breaking stiff. I miss them... until I hit a pothole in my Audi and remain conscious, heh.

haha yeah. I think they're totally fine, but I would wait for someone else with new ones to chime in to confirm.

Re: Quick question about Stasis StreetSport coilovers

That's the way they are; no problems. Just avoid spinning the shaft when fully extended or you may change the damping setting. I say you "may" because to do it you also have to push a little button under the shock cap, but just in case.

The rest is like Phrost says. We changed my son's Jetta's shocks the other day and you could move the shaft up 'n down like a bicycle pump.

Re: Quick question about Stasis StreetSport coilovers

Yeah, I haven't changed the damping. On these you need them fully compressed, then you swivel the strut arm. I did, however forget that these were at STaSISs pre-set height, and moved the collars. D'oh.
Oh well, I doubt the pre-set would have been low enough.

Are you going to install them yourself?

Yes. I have the resources as I attend a technical school, and even if I didn't, i'd rather spend the money on the tools needed than let somebody else do it. I let somebody put my grill and sidemarkers on, and they dented my paint. So I don't trust other people working on my car anymore.

I'm the same. Adjusting height for the rears can be a pain in the butt but I figured out a way to do it pretty fast and without disassembly. If you need advice shoot me a message or email. [email protected]

    Good Luck!

Re: Quick question about Stasis StreetSport coilovers

If you could shoot me a PM on the easy way to adjust the perches easily, that would be much appreciated. Unless it involves dropping the subframe, which I don't feel like messing with.

No subframe dropping. Just lifting and taking wheel off. I'll PM you.

Re: Quick question about Stasis StreetSport coilovers

So no luck today. My teacher would not allow me to stay all day, and I had trouble from the beginning using both the included instructions and Capt. Obvious's instruction. I could not get a socket on the sway bar end, and I got the end links halfway out before I realized I am in over my head doing this myself. Besides, I would have to leave my car there 4 or 5 days to get it done properly.

Unfortunately, this is not like how my Japanese tC was. I will probably have somebody else do this for me. Thanks for the help though guys.

Yeah if you don't have a bunch of extensions and universals you're in trouble. That 16mm bolt of the sway end link is pretty tough to get to. I lowered my RSX with 2 wrenches; with the A4 you gotta be patient

Re: Quick question about Stasis StreetSport coilovers

I wouldn't touch it unless you were in someone's actual garage with the full spectrum of tools and knew where all of them are.

I tried doing crap to my old car in high school shop class too, and it's nothing but your friends distracting you, the teacher bitching at you for no reason, and they're always missing something you need.

Re: Quick question about Stasis StreetSport coilovers

Bump. Got the tools needed myself, and I am now half way through the front suspension. The strut assemblies are out, I have to take them to somewhere with a spring compressor to move along. I rented a pair of compressors, but they are too big to work with.
