    Oil sensor warning light??

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
OK guys i think i've got a new one for you. So i had an oil sensor light go off on the dash today... anyone know whats going on with that? Is it just one of those take it to the dealership and leave it and never know wat went wrong wit it sorta thing or is it just like pick up a new sensor and do it myself.

Or more likely was it a ripple in the computer and should i just ignor it until it comes up again?

    I have a 2001.5 audi a4 1.8 turbo btw

Thx very much as this has me perplexed...

Sounds like you are just low on oil. Or your oil might be spent and needs to be changed. Check your oil level.

    Re: Oil sensor warning light??

Is it the oil symbol that comes up in the display screen? If so it is a bad oil pressure sensor which is located near the oil filter. What you can do is unplug it and see if you get any other lights coming up because I know if that sensor is not plugged in a oil warning symbol comes up on the display screen.

    Re: Oil sensor warning light??

well its not the oil pressure warning light and its not the normal oil warning light. When it comes up it shows the oil can and then just says sensor below it. The manual said to replace the senseor? Would going in and unplugging it and plugging it back in reset it because i have never heard of this problem b4.... thx

You might just have a bad connection at that sensor.

BTW is this the symbol you get?

    Re: Oil sensor warning light??

87000.... thelight only comes on occationally... ive owned the car since about 84000 miles... and i baby it.. synthetic oil every 1500 miles and i changes the filter too... i use premium gas... idk where i would be getting sludge unless the cars past was worse then i thought.

It only comes on occationally... is it posible its just a glitch in the computer?

    Re: Oil sensor warning light??

yes it is but i had the exact same problem before. There was a TSB at Audi for it. To me it sounds like you might have sludge. Pick yourself up a couple cans of Lubro Molly Engine Flush, do it once, driver around for 1k miles, do it again, fixed my problem!

    Re: Oil sensor warning light??

id say the motors sludged, same thing happend on my audi with 110 on the clock and i only ran synthetic...its all about how the person before you treated the car

however hopefully that engine flush fixes your problems

    Re: Oil sensor warning light??

the sensor is only what? $5-10? I say just replace the sensor or remove your valve cover to get an idea if it's possibly oil sludge. I suppose an engine flush couldn't hurt if it's not expensive.

oh yeah, and changing your oil every 1.5k miles is ridiculous. even 3k is overkill.. even though thats when i usually change my oil. I good synthetic won't start breaking down until 5k+

Mike do you have a picture of where this sensor is? I have a different but similiar issue... I swapped the EEPROM from an A4 cluster to an S4 and it was working fine, now I get low oil warnings. I replaced the oil level sensor, and my oil is never actually low. I think the cluster is bugging out. If I pop my hood the light goes away, but comes back after say a few hours of driving. I might want to check out this sensor you speak of as well...
