Hey, I'm new on here. Just got my first Audi last week. Its a 2005 Audi A4 SE 1.8t CVT.

    Brilliant Black
    Platnium Interior
    Multitronic (T M) Automatic Trans.
    Special Edition Package -
    Glass Sunroof (W/Power, Tilt, Slide)
    Homelink
    Leather Seats
    Power Driver & Passenger Seats
    Driver Information Display
    Rear Deck Spoiler
    17" Cast Alloy Wheels

I bought out the lease of my in-laws. Has just under 40,000k miles on it.

Here are a few pictures (mind you I'm not very good at taking them):

I'm not going to to any "engine" upgrades until after the warranty expires. And even then I'm probably just do an intake [edit: or likely not, since evidently it does zilch for the 1.8t] and maybe a new exhaust. But, I do plan on doing some exterior upgrades.

First, I'd like to get some new rims/tires. What's the largest I can get without needing to modify anything? I saw a great set of 19" wheels on another B6 A4 on here, but I don't know if those are too big.

These are the wheels I'm talking about...

    And they're on bwoy1981's ride.

Also, how hard is it to put in the clear front lights?

Thanks. Don't flame me too much for having such a basic ride right now.

19's are very easy to fit on your car, I'm running 20's. Those wheels are RPM R-505, you can find them on eBay or you can google the name and some shops will come up. I used to want them too for the big rear lip. You can only get that lip in the staggered setup which seems to be hard to come by nowadays.

Oh yea, forgot to mention that. Since you don't have the sport suspension, your car will look like a Tonka truck if you put 19's on it, so lower the car first them get wheels or do them at the same time.

I'm a newbie to this stuff, so bear with me. What do you mean by big rear lip?

And staggered means wider rears than fronts, right?

I just want the same tires front and back.

Ooh, it'll look that bad? Hrmm... I didn't want to lower it. Do 18's look bad too?

I'm not really looking to "tweak" suspension/performance stuff. Just a few exterior upgrades.

I mean, it's not a huge deal. Its not like I need them right now. So I've got plenty of time to think about it.

    Re: My New A4

Steve, it's Brian. The staggered set ups will have a larger lip on the rear wheels as well as being wider in the rear. There are a few manufacturers that make staggered look alike wheels that will have the same width front and rear but give u that look of having wider tires in the rear. I would also look into suspension later on down the road. There will be some major fender gap. I will eventually do coilovers on my car. Luckily for now I have the sport suspension. Do you have the xenon headlights or halogen? Xenons will give you that bright bluish white light. If u have xenons, the clear corner mod is super easy. Check www.a4mods.com in the diy section for the how to. Also watch the video because it really helps when trying to remove the wiring harness. While you are on there. Look at the gallery section at the black car section. You will get a ton of ideas, as well as in the wheel section. F' it. check all the colors. You will get so many ideas your wallet will start burning a hole in ur pocket. And guys, don't flame him, he's a good guy. An old buddy of mine from college, before he pussed out and transferred. lol j/k. Good luck with the car bro and keep me posted whenever you have questions or whatever. It's ufc time... PEAF!!!!!

Can't wait for the next Lesnar fight.

I'm pretty sure I've just got halogen's. Doesn't say anything on the spec sheet about xenon.

    I'll check out the website.

    NICE!

What'd you pay for them? And what size did you get?

Post up a picture when you put them on. I'd like to see them.

Damn PJ, I'm never gonna catch u at the rate you're going. can't wait to see the rims on the car. I was considering that exact set up for my car. But I've considered almost every set up. lol. And Steve, I forgot to mention the stickies.. Best place to possibly start is those links.

Side note. Some decent fights tonight. And yeah, I can't wait to see the next lesner fight. He was a humble loser. Was interesting fight to see how technical fighting picked apart brute strength. With the mix of lesner's strength and the proper training and experience, he's gonna be sick. Enough about ufc.... Keep researching that audi..

Okay, I've read the stickies but I'm still stumped on this.

What's the deal with the 9.5s on the back? Do you have to get them that way? Or does that just make them stick out a bit...like it's just a visual thing?

I mean, can you just get a set of all 4 that are 8.5s? Or a set of 9.5s?

Bare with me here, this whole "nice wheels" thing is new to me. I've been driving an '01 Elantra for the last 7 years for Christ's sake.

BTW, what tires did you get? I've got to get a set for my car. I figure I'll get something cheap for the time being, since I'll likely get the rims later this year and need to get the tires to fit.

    Re: My New A4

You can get 8.5 inch rims all around. No need to stagger them. For an all wheel drive car, staggering is simply aesthetic. If u do decide to stagger, depending on the width rim you get, your tire sizes will be different. With our all wheel drive, it is fairly important that our overall tire/wheel diameter be the same. If you search staggered wheels, you'll probably come up w some examples of what they look like and what people did to get that look. Darrick aka Capt. Obvious is very informative and knows his shit when it comes to wheel and suspension setups. Tires and wheels can become very confusing if you aren't familiar with them. If u just want a nice 19 to clean up the look of the car, I'd do a 19x8.5 wheel with an offset of about et35. The bolt pattern on our cars is 5x112. If you are itching to start doing things to the car. A cheap easy thing to do is debadge the car. A lot of people on here do it but it's a matter of ur taste. Debadging is basically removing the a4 and 1.8t symbols from the back of the car. it smooths out your ass. I took mine off but really, I like the way the car looks with or without them. By the way, I love the lip spoiler and will be getting one for the car eventually.

I don't have quattro Brian. Just FWD. Or did you just mean that in reference to all the 4WDs on the board.

I think I'm gonna keep the badges on. I like the way they look. Not to worried about cleaning up the rear end. But I do like how the debadged cars look too. So, you're right...they look good both with and without them.

I couldn't remember if u had it or not and I was typing that mess w one eye open. Figured i'd mention it to be safe. I think some guys have squeezed 9 inch wheels up front but 9.5 will give problems. 8.5 is a good safe width for front and rear. a 19x9.5 or 19x10 in the rear looks figgin bad ass though..

It probably does. But I can't pull off "bad ass." I just look like a douche bag.

    I'll stick with the 19x8.5s.

Guess I'll go with some cheap replacement tires for the time being, and hold off on the new rim. Since evidently I'll look like ass if I put on the 19's without lowering the car first.

I'll have to look into the lowering thing. How much does that usually run, and how much lower does it need to go? Keep in mind some of the roads here in Atlanta suck.

    Re: My New A4

If u don't want to go rediculous low, check the suspension portion of the classifieds. You can find sport suspensions fairly cheap. If you go with lowering springs, it will look good for a while but ur shocks will go quickly. The coilover route is nice because you get the adjustability. They can be pricey but they pop up on the classifieds and the group buys for some deals. When considering lowering spring vs coilovers you have to weigh the fact that if you do springs, you will eventually need shocks because the stockers are gonna blow. Coilovers are the whole package and height adjustable. If you are paying someone to install for you, you must consider that u don't want to pay labor twice so do the shocks and springs the same time. If you just want to get rid of the tonka truck look w a mild drop, look into sourcing a sport suspension. There have been threads asking what 19s look like on sport suspension with pics so you get an idea of if u like that look. when I get to my office, I can help u with links to other threads but i'm using the phone right now.

Click on my profile to see what my black A4 looked liked with RPM 505's, I used to run a set untill I switched over to the staggered TSW's. This could give you an idea of what your car would look like with those wheels and maybe a drop.
