Got keyed!

It has only been a week since I got the car and the right front door got keyed yesterday. The whole door has to be repainted. Audi of Manhattan quoted me $650 for the job. I'm so f*cking pissed right now, because I know who did it, but have no proof, so I can't do anything about it. It's times like these that I hate living in New York.

sorry to hear. normally you need to get the whole keyed side repainted though. (it's almost impossible to match the oem paint.)

Yeah. Make sure they blend into the other door and the quarter otherwise it'll look like a patch job.

The reason I can't do anything about it is that I parked in the backyard of a house where a bunch of little kids play (5-9 yrs old). I told them to be careful around the car and that probably provoked them. I know it couldn't have been anyone else, because I didn't leave my car anywhere else, but I can't make their parents pay for it, because I can't prove anything. I wish I could put my hands on those little bastards and teach them a lesson, unfortunately the law says otherwise.

Is it down to the primer? If not, it can be buffed... not ideal, but better than chancing a mismatch and respraying also decreases the value of the car. I would still notify the parents that it happened, if any of them are responsible, they will question the kids, which will scare the hell out of them, and then maybe they won't do it to the next guy!

Where in NYC do you park the car? I park on mine in Manhattan and I check my rear bumper & both sides of my car each day before leaving work. Garage parking in the city is almost $500 so that isn't an option for me.

That's the downside of having a nice car in NY, you are always paranoid about leaving it anywhere.

Not to mention our roads are complete shit. I've been to most major cities in the U.S. and Europe and NYC is by far the worst. Some people say it's the winter weather and the size of the city that makes the roads hard to maintain, but thats BS because if they wanted to maintain them they would. I was in Moscow this past summer, where the winters are much more severe and which is a larger city with more traffic than NY, the roads are mostly mint.

I saw another TT in the city with this set. Do you have one? Are they easily removable (stolen)? i would hate to spend money on something that someone else can just take off.

I do have a set. The upside is that they are easy to snap on/take off (takes 20 seconds to put them on). The downside is that they are easy to snap on/take off (can be stolen). I know a lot of people that use them and haven't had any problems with theft so far. I guess it's not really an item that a can be sold for a lot of money. Thieves are more interested in electronics.

where were you parked? parking lot? street? business? im sure wherever you were parked theres surveillance, even if its the street a neighbouring store may have something. secondly, how come you think you know who did it?

NYC roads are pretty terrible, and they're always being repared. Makes me wonder why / how people drop their rides or get very low profile wheels around here.

Some kids popped all four of my tires last January while I was in school, smashed the driver's side window of another kid's BMW in (Poor kid had to drive 20 miles home), cut up a Saab convertible top, and keyed the shit out of a Mercedes. I had to miss work and pay some jackass my last $150 to tow my A6 to the garage.

It also happened that the school had conveniently shut down the parking lot surveillance system for the day due to maintenance, and said they weren't responsible for damage done on school grounds.

Funny though, how the school paid when the Principal's Caddy got smashed up.

I was parked in a driveway, behind a house. There are no cameras anywhere in the area. And I now who did it because I see the kids playing there all the time. Didn't expect this thread to get resurrected, I no longer park my car anywhere near there btw.
