    seeking chip install instruction (8D0 907 557T)

    hi fellows

i am planning to get a APR chip or GIAC chip and custom chip(i think it is AMD or superchip ) from UK from my friends who has ECU 8D0 907 557T as same as mine(1.8T B5 non tiptronic standard) to try see which chip i like on my ride.

my friends said this is only 1 chip i need to solder, then plug and play.

Because lack of quality tuners in my town, i have to install the chip by local electronic repairer who can solder on a PLCC44 socket in place of your standard chip. is it correct?

has anyone here can share the instruction on solder those chip on ECU 8D0 907 557T? or any pics? they mention i need to replace the chip which has yellow sticker on.

    cheers

    maybe this can help:

also, an apr and/or giac chip may be on an encryption board. pictured here:

that will require pin headers to be installed on to the mainboard instead of a socket (first pic) or eprom. newer versions of the software is encrypted when flashed over obd so they may be located on a stock eprom.

if your file was flashed encrypted or not encrypted at all ( haha) then you should be able to solder the eprom to the board or use a socket for quick r&r between eproms.

    hope this helps. cheers.
    contact via email please.

    other model.

    4b0 906 018p. usa 1.8t 5spd.

your ecu should look very similar. if not 100% the same.

The 557t has smaller square chips than that, we cannot use the US chips, as i asked the same q a few weeks ago

Re: seeking chip install instruction (8D0 907 557T)

[QUOTE=Monk;2285520]Correct. DBW A4's simply need to get re-flashed and would not require a chip to be physically installed each time a new file is written.

I'll share a couple of ECU pics. from my nDBW Euro-spec 98'. Sloppy soldering & tapped wires abound. I was surprised that the board was still functional. Note that this Superchips(UK) Ko3 chip/socket install was done back in 99', w/c would explain the bizzaro 'ladder' layout & subpar workmanship.

Since I live overseas, I had ATP send the actual EPROM 'chip' (glad they had a file for my Euro 'T'-code ECU). But installation wasn't plug & play as the Superchips socket wasn't in the correct orientation Now the ATP chip & socket 'guides' don't match. We had to file-down one side of the Mika chip so we can wiggle it in the existing Superchips socket.

I have the same socket and chip as you (difference brand). but just want to confirm something that may confuse me.

as my friend told me i need to solder the socket and chip on the top of yellow sticker chip or i need to direct replace that yellow sticker chip. but compare with your pic, it seem like this is total difference story. would you able to tell me or point out where i should solder my socket and chip.

by the way, in your mika tuned chip pic, is that correct place to solder any tuning chip with that socket position in (8D0 907 557T) ECU?

^ Here's a pic. of a stock 557-T. You will have to de-solder the E-PROM chip (I placed a 'red' dot over it). It's very delicate work.

thanks monk. compare this picutre to your mika chip picture. on the black mark there, there would be a small chip there as i seen your stock chip picture. do i have to desold that chip as well. or i just leave it there desold the stock chip and replace the new chip with brown socket?

    cheers

^The 'black gunk' in the Mika ECU pic. is just silicone to prevent the previous Superchips ladder-type layout from tipping-over due to vibration. The 'small chip' you're referring to is still underneath the silicone. Only the E-PROM chip needs to be replaced (orientation is determined by the 'guide' on the upper right hand corner).
