Question Next BANG FOR YOUR BUCK mod after chip??

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Just got my B7 2.0T Revo'd and beginning to like it. Went back and forth between APR and Revo, and after doing numerous research here on the boards, decided to go with Revo because it fit my needs better. Power isn't as GRAND as I had anticipated after reading all the praises about softwares, but then again I AM little desensitized from having an E46 M as my other car. But don't get me wrong, the power is a HUGE improvement over stock.

Now, onto my main question: What is the next best bang-for-your-buck mod after the chip?

yeah, testpipes can be found for about $100 on ebay or $150 or so on other websites. buy some injectors and go for the 1+ file. then maybe rear sway bar, coilovers or lowering springs, get u'r snub mount...they're like 30-40 bux, and dont forget about u'r dv.... it will last a little while with the higher boost, but save u'rself a broken engine and replace the dv before it replaces itself!!

Re: Next BANG FOR YOUR BUCK mod after chip??

Test pipe, then you can go with stage 2 software
Snub mount (really cheap, but it gets a lot of praise and is an easy install... I didn't buy mine yet though)

There isn't much more bang/buck performance stuff, unless you quick upgrade to the ko4 turbo or something

Re: Next BANG FOR YOUR BUCK mod after chip??

the only problem with going the test pipe route is that you will start getting fuel cut issues and then you need a fuel pump. a fuel pump is really not inexpensive at all lol.

Re: Next BANG FOR YOUR BUCK mod after chip??

that depends.... if you get the cat delete file from apr or whoever u chip through there isnt a problem. from what i understand, it just expands the parameters for the o2 sensors so even tho the cat isnt there, the ecu doesnt see a problem w/ the fueling....

if i'm wrong about how that works, someone please let me kno

Re: Next BANG FOR YOUR BUCK mod after chip??

I have APR stage 2 with a test pipe/intake, and have no fuel cut issues.

Mine seems to "run out of breath" at the top of the powerband, but from what I understand, "fuel cut" is a dramatic loss of power that feels like you jump into limp mode quick or something.

Run 100 octane gas. I'm running 110 leaded right now (still in the tank from the last weekend at the track). No rotten egg smell there...

my car doesnt smell like rotten eggs. lol. I wouldnt drive it if it did! The TP doesn't make it smell pretty I have to admit but as long as you back in and walk in front of the car you won't smell it.

I have run 100 in it and that smells wayyy worse IMO. Such a strong smell.

Dude, leaded gasoline will kill your catalytic converter very quickly, especially both your o2 sensors and give you a CEL. Plus I wouldn't want that junk going through the pumps/injectors with our fsi system. You have one normal fuel pump in the rear that pushes fuel up to the front at about 80psi, then one high powered pump on the fuel rail in the engine bay that feeds your injectors by pushing gasoline at up to 1,600psi. Seriously, drain that crap out and change your fuel filter.
    Ignorance is bliss.

X2...... My Mechanic said that running 110 Leaded is really bad for the FSI pump and the injectors. Just run 102-104 unleaded with some octane booster. I got good results at the track with that combination.

It doesn't matter, the upgraded pump just allows for more fuel to get pushed through at lower rpm. and both of his o2 sensors are now contaminated and will fail very soon. Have fun being in open loop all the time and getting shitty gas mileage

If you have the $$, go with a fuel pump.

If you don't then the test pipe. However, be warn. If you plan to change your exhaust as well. The overall exhaust sound level will increase. There will be some droning as well.
