Two Questions about Revo (or anyone else that does software upgrades)

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hi,

I keep thinking that for 600 bucks a flash to the computer would be a great upgrade. I dont know who I would go for, but I like the idea of not changing any parts out (nothing for the dealer to find). I had two questions.

    1. Do they make a software program (Revo or anyone else) that works for either 89 octane or 87 octane where you see some benefits (less HP & Torque than 93 octane programs of cours) -- (understanding that 91 or 93 gets better MPG & results but at $4.00 per gallon I might be tempted to spend less on gas).

    2. What happens if you buy the software, get it installed, goto the dealer for service, get your computer flashed, then go back to your original Revo dealer only to find they are out of business. What happens then? Do you have to buy it again?

If thats the case, how do you find someone who will be staying in business?

    Thanks,
    Rich

    1. You should be using at least 91 octane regardless of you're flashed or not.

    2. Go to another authorized dealer and show them your receipt. Also, the software company should have your VIN on file for record and most likely you have to pay labor fee.

    87 89 91 93 ? what's the difference with the European measurements for octanes ?
100octane in europe is like 93 in usa ? or 93 is like 104 racing gas ?
In europe we don't have gas below 95octane and even in the manual says that we must not fill our tanks with less than 95octane :/

In Europe its actually 95 RON which is equal to US 91 octane. Two different rating standards.

    Good read on octane ratings

Re: Two Questions about Revo (or anyone else that does software upgrades)

If I did the 5 hour test drive & then decided I didnt want it. What happens? Do I go back to get a factory flash? I know the Revo sends you back to a "Stock Type" settings but does it possibly make it worse (slightly less than stock)?

Is revo the only "software only" upgrade? Are the other two companies physical parts to install (Giac & ARP)?

    Thanks,
    Rich

rich, why didnt you like it? just curious...

it goes back to stock setting, you could always go back to get reflashed.

apr and giac are software as well, so any of those are safe to use.

Dude...how much are you really saving by not putting 93 in the tank. What 20 cents per gallon.....on a 15 gallon tank it's 3-5$ depending on 89 or 87!!!!!!! Come on!!

Re: Two Questions about Revo (or anyone else that does software upgrades)

I didnt get anything flashed yet (I should be getting my car on Wednesday - I am just waiting on a final price), I dont have my A4 yet :)

I was more curious, after the 5 hour trial, if the software reset to slightly worse than stock, then someone might feel they should do the upgrade (if they were on the fence).

Re: Two Questions about Revo (or anyone else that does software upgrades)

I had APR for about a month. I got flashed back to stock and it feels the same as it did before I had the APR...so I doubt your car would go to slightly higher than stock when the software wares off.

Re: Two Questions about Revo (or anyone else that does software upgrades)

The factory like driveability that was discribed on the APR website was not so factory-like. I liked the torque curve of the stock software better...it's much slower, but the power delivery is much smoother. I put the money towards exhuast instead. Haven't regretted it since. My next mod is going to be suspension, as the car already goes fast...it just takes longer to get there. The suspension is so floaty and loooks like a 4x4. Can't wait. I am going to chip it again...Probalby with GIAC, or I may go back to APR if I upgrade my fuel pump as I've heard that makes a huge difference.

rich, call riverside audi if you want APR, or even better, call KMD tuning if you want REVO. theyll answer all your questions. Once you get the test drive with the chip, you will fall in love with it. you can still run chipped and 91 octane if the extra 3 bucks or so per tank is that important to you. theoretically, you could get a selectplus switch and turn the boost and timing all the way down to run 87-89 octane gas, but im sure that the reduced MPG you would get would nullify any saving you would have had from buying cheaper gas.
