yup...less highs, basically more heat capacity. and combined with the manual fan mod, i can dump a ton of oil heat out through the coolant system.

Re: post your oil cooler set ups.

So - I was wondering. When the oil temps start creeping toward 250 is that from the increased water temps or the oil itself?

I guess what I am getting at is, would there be benefit to just adding a sandwich style adapter to the existing setup? This way, you would benefit from the quicker warm up of the oil from the engine coolant, but then increased cooling and capacity from the cooler. This is all assuming there is no thermostat in the sandwich or anywhere else.

    Any thoughts?

I completely eliminated the cooler because they fail... I didn't want to deal with that, ever...

Would that fit up by the hood grille instead of the lower so I can run a FMIC too?

you are hitting the nail on the head. in fact the RS4 oil cooler has both parts.

-the actual A4 sized heat exchanger
-an air/oil radiator up front like the bmw one mike posted

that is probably the best setup for a cold climate/daily driver + track car.

That is what I am shooting for. I am scouring Ebay for unique and random oil coolers daily. I am finding everything from military surplus oil coolers from aircraft, cessna oil coolers, motorcycle oil coolers, etc.

I plan on getting a nice and unique unit on there and coupling it with a regular sandwich adapter, while retaining the stock cooler setup.

Re: post your oil cooler set ups.

Where do you guys tap into for the oil pressure to the cooler? Pre or Post Oil filter?

I haven't seen any pics of where the lines come from, just the coolers themselves.
And I'm a little lost as to when should I upgrade my oil cooler? I've never seen my oil temps get any higher than ~220 on the stock gauge, but that's on a long drive 150+miles.

if you do anything w/ your car other than just drive it i dont see it being a bad investment.

most ppl on here that have them seem to either road race or drag race.

i started using motul oil recently. this year i noticed my oil temps a little higher than what they were. i didnt like that. so i went in search of a solution. no real reason other than i just wanted to.

Re: post your oil cooler set ups.

    Parts used:
1- Mocal Sandwich plate with 180* thermostat
1- Earls Performance 5"x8.25"x2" Oil cooler pn EAR-21610ERL
    1- 3/4" x 16 Nipple
    5'- 10an stainless braided hose
    1- Straight 10an hose end
    1- 45* 10an hose end
    2- 90* 10an hose ends
    2- 10an flare to 1/2" adapters

Its hard for me to get a good picture of the cooler since its hidden behind my intercooler pipe. I'm probably going to fabricate an air duct before the summer so it will get some good air flow.

3M clear dual lock velcro. The car has been over 120mph with no bumper and the cooler is still tight on there.
