Please Help With Cv Joint!!! Urgent!!!

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hello and thanks in advance for reading this,

I was replacing the CV boot in the right side. Everything was going fine, removed the lower control arms and stuck the new boot. I hammered the cv joint back in the axle and it seemed fine, but when putting everything back together the length of the axle+joint seemed smaller than it should and then there wasn't enough length to reach the hub. I've done a few cv boots and this never happened to me. Is it possible that I hammered the joint too much and put it too much inside??!!? Please help as I don't know what to do.

Any help is more than appreciated!

You cant hammer it on to much. How does the inner joint feel when moving the axle around? How hard did you hit it? You might have popped the inner joint apart. And let me tell you that is MOTHA FUCKA to get all those balls back in.

yeah, i have had the joint fall apart multiple times on me.. man that sucks! I'm gettin good at it now though ha. But that doesn't sound like the problem.. he would definately notice if it came apart. Try this, attach it at the trans, then just put the end into the hub and use the collar/axle bolt to try and pull it in. Should work, if not then something ain't right

you dont need to remove ANY of the control arms. when poopie did some maintenance stuff for me we just took out the upper strut mount bolts and slid the top of the strut assembly outward, this gave us enough room to maneuver the cv joint to the side (not completely out because removing the axle because wasn't necessary). my pinch bolts were seized too so that allowed us to push that off to another day

The joint feels just like it should. I hammered it but were more gentle pushes than anything else :) My guess is that I fuckt up the axle somehow. I'm gonna take another good look where it connects to the trans and hopefully that will shed some light. Thanks for all the help!
