Does Vag-Com version 409.1 work with Windows Vista.

I am kind of pissed right now, lol. trying to get the new laptop (Vista) to hook up with my car.

I wasn't able to for some reason, but you might want to call Ross-Tech. I gave up and ended up getting the Palm version through Adam@SPP.

Well I got the ebay version cable with the vagcom software 409.1

it worked without flaw on my old XP

any ideas

I use 311 with vista ebay cable without any problems.

I am following th exact same procedure I used to do with the XP.

Go to "Options" and then Test the connecion under COM3 and it says:

Port Interface found!
Interface Found!
Type: Serial-Pass through
Opto/Iso: No
Ross tech Design: No

What does that mean?


I think that may be the problem.....when i first used the ebay cable, I used it in conjuction with the CD software that came with the cable, but now fo rthe new computer (Vista) I have lost the CD so i am downloading version 409.1 of the rosstech website.....could that be my problem?



Also, can someone please upload there version of Vagcom that came on the CD with the Ebay cable?

try different com ports on the vag com software. I remember 2 ports showed interface found on mine but only one com would work.

IIRC, that message looks okay from the test. So what happens when you try to open a module?

Download the drivers from the link above and before installing on your laptop, uninstall the drivers you have. It should be under Ports in the device manager when you have your cable plugged in.

mine wouldnt work with vista. then i tried the ross-tech cable i bought out of the For Sale section it works fine now

It should be for the USB to Serial cables you buy from eBay.


To the OP, try changing your com port in your device manager; VAG-COM only recognizes 1-4.

Does ANYTHING work with Vista?



This may seem like blasphemy, but you can either:

1) Downgrade to XP (what I did)
2) Set it up for dual-boot, either with an external drive or another partition on your hard drive

Alright I FINALLY got it to work (I tried all different variation with the four USB ports on my laptop).

Anyways, I JUST got it to work and then the Vagcom screen turned white and a box popped up stating "Vagcom has encountered an error and will be shut down" (or something of that varaition...anywas it keeps doing it and is pissing me off.

Can someone direct me to the CORRECT Vagcom needed so I can download it?

I tried yesterday the whole day to make a gps receiver work on it...I downloaded the drivers for vista and not a chance to make that thing work..I installed it on an old computer and guess what it works..Then I see this post and remember that I have an e bay cable so I tried to make that work..I downloaded the drivers from that site and it does recognize the port ok but none of the versions would actually see the interface..I tried to use sistem recovery to return the computer to a previous state and even that doesn't work...So yeah fuckin vista or fuckin microsoft...The worry is that I have a feeling that they do that on purpose because they kinda own the market...

when Is ross rech gonna come aout with a version for mac????

Good news...i guess

I just got vag-com to work with Vista.

I had to try all 4 of the USB ports and it was the third one that it would register with....also I had it set with COM4

Also you must right click and click "run as administrator"

Yea ebay cable from 1 year ago.

I downloaded version 409.1 from the ross tech site.

Make sure you Run it as Administrator and then try different variations of the USB ports on you laptop and the different COM ports as well
