    Little dilemma; Wiper arm/mount

So, all winter my wiper arms have been clashing. Finally got nice enough to look at it about a week ago, and found out that my driver side wiper arm slowly got the teeth ground to nothing, which was causing it to slip. I thought, no big deal, I'll replace the arm. Seems like I might be wrong.

I also looked at the piece the wiper arm mounts to, (not sure what to call it, but the gear/axle piece that it sits on, then you bolt it down) might be also somewhat stripped. I can't exactly remember how bad it is, but I can post a picture when I get home in about 15 mins.

Regardless, I need new wipers. So I'll be picking up a set of Aeros.

My question is, how difficult (if anyone has been through this before), would it be to remove the piece it's mounted to, which also may be stripped?

    TIA, pics up soon.

it's not hard, requires a an hour or two to take out the whole assembly out and put it back in.
    here's the removal process

    Good deal, thanks.

Couldn't get pictures. Came home early from work, it was still light out, and I decided to ease my sunburn by washing the car. Too dark now, I'll snap some tomorrow.

Alright, so here's some pictures. Not 56k friendly, sorry, upgrade your internet.

Do you guys think this can be repaired, or should I replace the entire thing? I already ordered some aero wipers, but I'm concerned that this will shred the grooves out of the wiper arm again.

    Input?

It just looks dirty to me...is it really that worn down? or can you clean it up with a wire brush?

It's somewhat chewed up. I could probably put the grooves back in with a machine we have, but then I might make it smaller causing the grooves not to match up.

I can't find a part # anywhere for that. I'm not sure if it's the entire motor or not that would need to be replaced.

But, I'm sure there's some kind of compound I can use when I put the new wiper arm on. No?

Funny you should post this. My whole wiper linkage froze up the other week while in the rain. It does take a little bit of time and effort if your a noob like I was. A whole linkage assembly is over 200$ at Audi which I got quoted. All the linkage assembly are all separate pieces and you have to order all of them to make the complete puzzle. Yes you can just order that piece you took a photo of, where the wiper connects to, but yours looked exactly like mine, and all I did was take a wire wheel to that area you have pictured and the entire piece itself. If you want to go through the whole hassle of getting the linkage out and then back in I would go ahead and lube everything up since you have it all out and clean it up. Pretty simple once it is all out.

Out of curiosity does anyone know what the P# is for the plastic shroud that covers the wiper assembly? I cracked mine when I installed my aero wipers.

Well the wiper turns fine (when working). My initial problem is that the gears from the old wiper arm were stripped basically, and couldn't turn anymore.

I could probably just use loc-tite to put the new aero's on..

quat pull you cowl off and lok under it, the part number is on it, if your going to replace it anyways. I broke mine too.

Also somewhat on subject, Yes i looked in the DIY's and around on here and searched for it, but all i got was the Aeao wipers, Anyone have a DIY or post about just getting RainX wipers that look like the ICON blades or the Aero ones. RainX has the list for a 21inch blade for audi A4's and says it fits, but not sure how to get the old arms apart enough to get the new blade style on??????
