Looking at Range Rover Supercharged, Help

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
well, my dad is looking at picking up a 06 Range Rover Supercharged (not the sport) and was wondering if anyone here has any good, bad experience with this truck. I think he wants to get it but i want to make sure its not going to cause too many problems down the road. the truck has:
    2006 Silver/black Range Rover Supercharged
    48,000km
Truck is fully loaded with everything incluidng dvd in the rear

is there anything that i should be worrying about becuase this is the first time we have look at any Land Rover, how is this truck reliability wise, can this thing last or do they have any problems?

    thanks

I'd be worried on the gas consumption on that rather than the reliability!!

Not sure, but that engine would either be a BMW 4.4L or a Jaguar/Ford 4.2L supercharged...

They're a nice truck! Although I'd prefer the Sport... I also doubt that there's not that many Land Rover dealerships for repairs, or independent shops that would be specialized in them... :(

Re: Looking at Range Rover Supercharged, Help

First of all, I love the Range Rover supercharged....

In terms of reliability I can't tell you first hand, but I have read about them on forums, when my dad wanted to step into one. It seems to me that they do have a bit of problems in the past. Not sure if I would want to get it used, because of limited remaining warranty. That and compared to an X5 4.6i, my dad wasn't impressed with it at all.
    Cheers!

Re: Looking at Range Rover Supercharged, Help

I've had a Sport and a Sport Supercharged. I loved the SS but it's an absolute pig on gas so I traded it for the non-supercharged. The non-supercharged is much more efficient and 300HP is more than enough for an SUV but I missed the suspension and brakes of the SS, which I believe the Supercharged also has. The SS handled more like a sports car than an SUV whereas the non-supercharged had the typical truck feel of SUVs. For this alone, the Supercharged is worth the upgrade if you can live with filling up every third day. I never had either truck long enough to have problems but I would never own one out of warranty. The Sport was my last SUV and I'll never buy one again. Go Avant!

No shit ! Wife's car is an XC90 and its a very nice vehicle BUT I would never be happy driving a truck. Avants rule ! Oh and my S gets similar mileage to the XC90 with my leadfoot in mine and her granny driving hers ...

i love Range Rovers but i hear Land Rover in general has some reliablilty issues.....electrical issues to be specific.
i know someone who has a Land Rover LR2 and its the 2nd time in the last month and a half that its going back to the dealership (all electrical related).
besides that, she loves the truck.

    Did a quick search:

2006 LAND ROVER RANGE ROVER POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION
    Recall Date: 11/01/2005

    Summary:
CERTAIN SPORT UTILITY VEHICLES MAY HAVE BEEN MANUFACTURED WITH AN INCORRECTLY MANUFACTURED AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION PARKING PAWL GUIDE PLATE.

    Consequence:
CONSEQUENTLY PARK MAY NOT ENGAGE WHEN THE LEVER IN THE VEHICLE IS MOVED TO PARK AND ALL INDICATORS SHOW PARK POSITION IS ACHIEVED. IF THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED ON AN INCLINE, AND THE PARKING BRAKE WAS NOT ENGAGED, THIS COULD RESULT IN A VEHICLE ROLL-AWAY CONDITION, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.

    Remedy:
DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE PARKING PAWL GUIDE PLATE FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON NOVEMBER 19, 2005. OWNERS MAY CONTACT LAND ROVER AT 1-800-637-6837.

    Potential Units Affected: 1949

Notes: LAND ROVER RANGE ROVER B023

Re: Looking at Range Rover Supercharged, Help

The place where i normally buy used Euro cars warned me that the suspension and tranny were the the questionable "achilles tendon" items and Consumers Reports does not recommend them at all from a reliability standpoint...then again...I bought a B6 Avant which was also not recommended.

If the suspension goes, tell him to go with an aftermarket setup and the tranny has a TSB that should get him out of 90% of the hot water that is possible. Talk to Coventry on Dundas and go right to the parts/service area. They will always let you know the real deal.
