    swaybars + dealer...

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So i went to my local Audi dealer today and asked if they would be willing to order me some audi swaybars from the S4 or Rs4 to put on my A4. He later replied,

"Regarding your question on adding a suspension modification to your Audi. We only add or repair factory made/authorized components. Do to liability concerns we don’t alter vehicles beyond Audi design. But thank you for considering us."

Is this a lazy manager/dealer or is this true?

    -thanks

No he's smart. He doesn't want to perform risk averse work that could potentially return to bit him in the @$$. It's a basic business management principle...

so if i were to put swaybars on my car i would have to go after market and this would probably void my warranty with Audi...correct?

Not necessarily, it's usually the aftermarket parts that will void one's warranty. Your service-adviser/consultant just doesn't want to take unnecessary risks. Even if you replace your stock stabilizer with OEM ones sourced from a S4/RS4; it doesn't change the fact that you would still be altering the car's original suspension design. Technically they have any and every right to void your warranty- should you continue to do modify the your car away from its original design. That is the risk we all take when we modify our cars away from the manufacturer's original-intended design.

Just find another dealership that is more willing to "bend" the rules for their customers.

buy the sway bar yourself and install it. You can buy the part from them. They can't refuse to sell it to you.

    Re: swaybars + dealer...

the dealership are so dumb... they probably wont even notice that the sway bar is different... get the mod done yourself and save yourself some money and install it yourself or have a reputable shop do it for you. either way... it's not a risky mod

    Re: swaybars + dealer...

I just had my dealership order me the RS4 22mm rear sway bar, and they offered to install it for me. However, they did want to charge me for 2 hours labor at $117 per hour... I proceeded to tell them that I would install it myself.

    Re: swaybars + dealer...

Next time just order the parts and don't explain what you are doing. You can order the rear bar from ECS tuning if you don't mind paying shipping (link below). I'll also throw in my usual advice of buying the larger brackets for the bar (believe info is in the FAQ section). Bigger brackets will make the install go smoother and will hopefully prevent squeaking later on. Might need to buy them from the dealer. If you get the front bar and install yourself please post pics and instructions. I'd like to upgrade that at some point.
