    CV Boot/Axel help

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So today i was doing some suspension work and noticed grease all over my wheel and my shocks. I did some searching it doesn't look like it is ripped or teared like some of the pictures in the other threads.. The grease is just coming out from the very tip of the boot. I have also been noticing the clunking noise that other people were hearing. My question is how long can i drive with it like this? and what exactly do i need to fix it? Also if someone could direct me where to purchase these parts i would really appreciate it.

    Re: CV Boot/Axel help

try to take the boot off and get new grease to fill what came out. if you dont notice a difference with the sound, check out raxles.com i'm sure someone else will chime in on what exactly you might need. could be a bearing or axle. i just had to replace both and noticed the same thing you have going on. no tear in the boot but saw grease all around it when i was adjusting my suspension. took it to the dealer and they told me what was wrong and quoted me like $900. crazy shit. check out that site if you need parts though

    Re: CV Boot/Axel help

You will eventually need to replace the boot and repack with grease but if you're hearing clunking it might be too late. You can drive with it like that actually for a while but it will keep losing grease and eventually dry up which will accelerate the wear of the joint dramatically. Theyh have been known to seize but that itsn't common. You should do it sooner than later. You might be better off just getting new axles and re/re them. Labour, from what I remember, was quite a bit and $900 doesn't sound ridiculous from a dealer.

    Re: CV Boot/Axel help

Actually, i'm not sure what i am hearing is the knocking sound that people in the other threads were talking about. What i am hearing is when i turn the steering wheel all the way, there is a knocking noise which could just be the wheels hitting the wheel wells since I'm lowered. But is there any way to just fill the boot with grease and seal it since it's not torn?

    Re: CV Boot/Axel help

I have all kinds of wierd pops and clunks coming from the front end of my car, when I took it to the shop they said on three different occasions that they could not find anything. Im assuming that they guys at the dealership could locate a problem like this. But I am now having this weird rattling from the front end, or underneath that sounds like something hitting my exhaust, also its been coming and going at freeway speeds, what it is I have no clue. But between the $1100 for a fuel pump, and now this, I can officially say that this is my last Audi, I felt like I was making a step up when I bought it, but this car has been a nightmare; bad service regarding coil packs...etc...Im done!

Who is this? How do I find them, I literally had the car taken to the dealer three times, can I go back to them, since I kept my reciepts and be like, "Look this is what is wrong, you guys failed to fix it, three times."? LOL!

Hahahah, what is the possibility that there is something else wrong, I have noticed that the tires on the front right wear differently, as in wear uber fast....
