The summer is here and my SMIC is soaking up some heat, what is a FMIC I can purchase for a descent price not oo expensive but requires the least amount of modification. I already have a RS4 front bumber but I am looking for one with the least amount of cuttin pipes and one that pretty much just tucks right in their. I have looked at the Ebay ones and alot of them look like you have to do a lot of cutting and and use alot of couplers, figured I would ask the experts first for some help, thanks.

GIAC FXK04 (Hammer) installed with a big fat cell...update, cell has been gone for a long time now but smells like it's running rich.

Depends on what type of turbo setup you are runnign or plan on doing later on.

Racetec for about $799+shipping but they are out of stock for maybe another month or 2.

I have talked to Fred at ER and he would be willing to make me some B5 Sport kits like they have for the B6, but it can not be used with the stock bumper. But that kit would be around $950 + shipping.

    Re: Fmic

Mike does the Rcetec one fit with the RS4 bumber or does the bumper have to be cut some. Also do the pipes match up or will I have to do some cutting. $800 range is descent for me I am just trying to figure out the best bang for the buck and I don't plan on going any higher than a K04, so will that FMIC help or cause problems. I don't race the car it is a daily driver. Thanks

You shouldn't have to do any cutting to fit it in the RS4 bumper.

You have to cut the bumper with all FMIC kits but the bigger intercooler you have the more you have to cut your bumper.

The racetec is designed to be used with the stock A4 bumper so there shouldn't be any cutting of the bumper to fit it on a RS4 bumper.

Just to throw in my 2 cents here...

Water/Meth Injection is always an option.

And you can get a complete kit for $440

But since that is installed after the SMIC it doesn't help reduce any heat soaking of the SMIC itself.

    True.

But it does reduce the IAT's pretty well from what I've heard.

But I'm not trying to knock getting a FMIC at all. Cause I'm either getting that or the Water/Meth. Most likely the FMIC for me tho.

Yes it will reduce IAT's but if the SMIC is heat soaking the IAT's at the SMIC will keep rising and also a flow issue. This is why the correct size of SMIC or FMIC should be used before going with WI.

But the OP wanted to do as little work as possibe and that isn't really the case when it comes to the Ebay FMIC setups. Plus the pipes always end up sticking out of the bumper.
