Anyone with the ECS BBK - Stage 4??

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I have just put on my car the Stage 4 BBK and my brake lighting keeps coming on on the dash, not the brake light but the one on the center display that looks like a circle with parenthesis on it. I think the rotors are warped already and are rubbing causing the brakes to think there is something wrong with the ABS? Could that be? I have heard that from Audi and since this is an aftermarket part they do not want to have anything to do with it. Has anyone else experienced this before.

Has anyone had their rotors go after only a short period of time (1000 miles or less)? What are you doing to correct the problem??

    Let me know - Thanks

    John

It's highly unlikely for 2 piece rotors to work under normal street use.

couldn't you use a vag com and pull the code to find out whats wrong? then you can figure out how to fix it.
VW Touareg V10 TDI. Don't mess.

    Past: Stg. 2+ B7 2.0T, B6 A4 1.8T, Allroad 2.7T 6spd (<-monster), Chevys, Jeeps, and a Nissan.

Understeer is when you hit the wall with the front of the car and oversteer is when you hit the wall with the rear of the car. Horsepower is how fast you hit the wall, torque is how far you take the wall with you, Body kits and decals are how much of a mess you leave on the wall.

Re: Anyone with the ECS BBK - Stage 4??

I have the stage IV brake kit. I always had the brake light in the middle of the dash on, I could never get it to go away. Also, when I would brake firmly....My ABS would sometimes kick in because the front was grabbing better then the rear.

BTW- What kind of rims do you have? It's hard to tell which rims will fit over the BBK. ECS says 18's will work but I have found that not to be true, not all 18's will work and the template on their website is not accurate at all

Re: Anyone with the ECS BBK - Stage 4??

I am running Audi S line titanium - oem wheels with 8mm spacers. I feel like the brake pedal is making the pulsating feel when i brake (from my experiences it feels like warping)

Vag'in the car comes up with nothing. I have done it already. It is not a fault issue - those are dumby sensors for the abs and brake wear sensors. Its stange though, it goes away and after driving for 30-40 mins in traffic or hard it comes back on. What is driving me nuts is that it stays on and thus eliminating my Radio display!

If anyone knows something i can do - and i do not want to replace the rotors with otherones because these already cost me so much.

I have pictures on my home computer of them in the wheels, i will post later on tonight when i get home.

    Thanks for the help

    John

That is exactly what I told my mechanic after I gave up on trying to solve the problem...they claimed they didn't feel it in the pedal and you can hear it too if you listen close. Since then...I found a new mechanic

I took it to the new garage and he ran Vag while I was braking (Can't go over 10 MPH or VAG will not connect to the car) and he just monitored my wheel speed while I was slowing down. My front wheels were slower then my rear wheels, if I remember right the front was ~2 mph slower

BTW- to get rid of the pulsating, (I don't really recommend this) but during nice weather I pull my ABS fuse. No more pulsating

You may want to call ECS. Their Stage 4 brake kit uses the same bias ratio as our stock setup. vag-com can be used at any operating speed.

To the original poster, the round brake warning light in the central display with lines around it is the low brake fluid light. If the ABS was malfunctioning it shows up outside the central display as an ABS light I believe. The light can go on and go off when taking turns bc the brake fluid slides to one side in the resovior and uncovers the sensor when the fluid is just partially low.

    cheers! Mike

In this situation the the ABS is not malfunctioning. I think the ABS is just "kicking" in b/c the wheels are at different speeds. Assuming that this is the same thing that I had with my car (Sounds identical to mine)
But I can't explain why the light is on , It has been bugging me for a while now and every mechanic I have gone too doesnt know why its on either. I am sure that some one is going to ask this so; Yes...I have checked brake fluid and I had new brakes all the way around.

Just curious, how do you get VAG to communicate with the wheels when going over 10 mph? I just recently bought vag and dont know all of the in's and out's of it yet. Tkx

I agree with you on the ABS thing. Are you making sure you are running the same width/size tires front and rear? Just making sure as some people run incorrectly ratiod staggared setups and can have that problem. If you are absolutely (make triple sure) sure you arent low on fluid then you may have a bad sensor in there or connection.

Also, don't forget your pad warning which looks similar and needs to be bypassed or you will get that light. In order to do that you need to solder the pad wires together from the old pads on the factory wiring harness. If you just twist them together they often come apart intermittantly and the light comes back on.

Re: Anyone with the ECS BBK - Stage 4??

I have connected the brake pad sensors with wire nuts and electric tap, if i need to solder i will. As far as the brake fluid goes, the resevoir is completely filled (perhaps when i take a turn or brake hard it does not always trigger the light) i am not sure what to do! I am taking all your advice - I am just running out of patience.

The vag com works at all speeds by the way as long as you have the full program and are running in the turbo mode so it logs faster to keep up with the faster rate ECU.(from what i understand).

Thanks for the info. I will have to try this turbo mode out later tonite.

If you figure out a solution to get rid of the light on the dash; post it up, I would be very interested in a solution, looking at the light is very annoying... especially on long trips
