Looks good man, did mine a last week - same gauge too. Did you use a dremel?

I used tin snips and it worked great. Nice clean cuts. I am going to paint all of mine black though.

Not my cup of tea, but to each his own and at least he did it himself and can always change it if he wants a more integrated look.

I actually agree with S4-ORCE. You can pitch the whole "function over form" crap, but if I carried that mentality, I wouldn't be driving an Audi S4 (read: boyracer Evo/STi)

I personally went with the no-gauge look...

It's called EFU 4U... it's pretty fackin' sweet because not only can you display boost among a bunch of other random things (oil temp if you get probe, speed, voltage) but there is a hook-up for Valentine 1 users. If takes all the information from you V1 and displays it in real time on the cluster so you can hide/stash the V1 out of sight...when V1 goes off, it automatically switches to show you the information. Very slick.

There is even a peak hold feature for boost and you can switch between information with the stock rocker switch on the windshield wiper stalk...oh almost forgot! You can also customize the screen to say anything when you start up the car

...my cluster was replaced for free under warranty a few years ago so my pixels are perfecto.

I give you props for doing it nice and cheap. Paint the gauge black and you're good to go...if not, it still looks good and does what it's supposed to. Don't understand why people feel the need to talk trash. If you have nothing nice to say, don't say anything, right?

Did mine for $52 from 42 Draft Design. Spray pained the outer shell flat black, and put in a matching LED. Took two hours to put in because the wires kept shorting.

Re: AWE vent gauge $240... mine $54

Naudi_Mat is selling a machined vent that fits the VDO gauge perfectly. After painting the silver shell of the gauge black it matches the stock gauges perfectly. IMO it looks just as good as the AWE gauge. The only slight difference is that it's difficult to light the entire gauge up. I believe that the AWE has a white light with a red film that spreads the light evenly around the gauge. Unfortunately, this isn't the case with the VDO gauge and spreading the light with a red LED isn't as easy. But for less than half the price it's definitely worth it to me.

Did the install myself, it's pretty damn easy. You just pop in a few connectors to the back of the radio (plug and play, so easy) and then tap one wire to the rocker switch (windshield wiper stalk) and you're done.

You plug in boost to a nipple on the EFU device and there is a telephone cable connection for V1.

Does it work if you have an aftermarket stereo? Also, with the V1 control, what do you use to mute it?

Yes, it works with aftermarket stereo. I don't have any aftermarket stereo, for example, and it works (I have a carpc).

I use a remote mute switch to mute the V1, you can also use the stalk to mute the cluster based alerts. i.e. you can have audible alerts from both V1 and the EFU unit. You can just turn down the V1 if you only want the EFU ones. I keep the V1 up because it's much louder and sometimes I need that extra warning ;) Muting the EFU based alert is done via the wiper stalk.

anyways, I got everything hooked up. and kinda curious if it sounds normal for the needle to vibrate badly under WOT at higere RPM's? not sure if a boost leak would do this...

Yep, you can also select an option to turn off V1 warnings below certain speeds or when stopped...cool stuff.

I have a Avic-D3 and EFU works no problem.

If its a mechanical gauge then it could be a boost leak causing it. Does it just vibrate, or does it fluctuate alot? Is the needle steady while building boost? If it just vibrates a little then it could just be the gauge...but its varies 2-3psi then it could be a slight boost leak. Have you done a pressure test recently?

it builds boost steady, its just under WOT going from a low rpm to a high rpm that it vibrates. I did a test a few days ago and everything was fine. I'm thinking it could be the DV's leaking
