    New intercoolers

I am looking to put a new set of intercoolers in my car. I was going to buy a set of ERs but was told to hold off cause i was told i would experience huge pressure loss. I am running k03s. Would I be better off running the AWEs? I am located in PHX, az. It gets hot here...real hot

Who the heck told you that ? An AWE or APR dealer ?

Depending on your criteria when it comes to fitment and willness to modified your car, performance-wise speaking, it is ER > AWE > APR/RS4.

    Re: New intercoolers

on a ko3 car awes, or rs4s are perfect if you dont plan on going ko4s. most front mounts and ER's are kind of overkill for stage 2. i could be wrong. however i did hear someone mention that ER's may have less pressure drop that awe. dont know how concrete that source was.

    Re: New intercoolers

Someone please confirm the statements made by others in this thread...

Pressure loss = greater with AWE or ER?

I've heard that with ER, due to the massive size and thickness of the core, it could actually be prone to heatsoak overtime during long drives the same person also said that AWE coolers are the perfect size for quick cooling while maintaining adequate IATs.

But I would like solid facts, not one sided opinions.

I called up APR and they said RS4 was the best. When I talked to WMS they said ER was the best. I rang China and they said Ebay was the way to go...weird.

Larger surface area of the Er would mean more air would hit and be cooled. No way would the Ers be anymore prone to heat soak then awes smic.

ER and AWE IC's share almost identical surface area. The thickness on the ER's is about 1/2 inch greater than the AWE's. Pressure drop.... heat soak... ? That's far fetched.

I would just like to see some logs of air temp. with both Er and awe.

    Re: New intercoolers

In an attempt to justify my purchase of ER IC's hehe...here is some comparison data I searched and found on AW...compiled for this thread:

    1. ER vs. RS4

    RS4 (60 degree ambient temp):

    ER (45 degree ambient temp):

These logs were done on the same car, here are some of his comments:

"Pressure drop between the two was significant. I had about 2 psi more of boost with the ER's which caused throttle cut. So I got retuned."

"The ER's are impossible to heatsoak though. Two back to back dyno pulls (with no cool down at all mind you) resulted in a 1hp difference. That's very impressive."

Another ER vs. RS4 (different car...no need to point out which IC is which)

    2. ER vs. Stock

    More ER logs/data/comparisons: http://www.mnaudi.com/jprice/er_intercoolers/

    3. Random AWE logs:

...i'm getting lazy...but you get the point. ER heatsoak/pressure drop seems to be a myth and AWE's perform very well too...but not as well as ER. RS4's on the other hand are off the charts in comparison to both.

    Sorry to say but yes..

AWE and ER make great products. The thing that gets me with the ER SMIC's is that Wicked used them on their GT car. That just shows you that these SMIC's can handle big power and still allow you to have the sleeper look.

    Tax Refund = ER SMIC's
