    A4 1.8q & 225q 1.8 Tt?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Ok!
Is the A4 1.8Q the same engine as the 225Q TT?
Other than the TT's Engine is inverted. Is this correct or am I wrong?
Anyone know? I'm told here from my techy that it is. I just want to make sure and get this clarified. Any help or suggestions!
    Thanks!

    Re: A4 1.8q & 225q 1.8 Tt?

nop, not the same. b5 a4's use a k03 turbo for 150hp, TT's use either a k03-sport turbo for 180hp, and 225hp TT's use a k04 turbo. plus the TT having a transverse engine makes alot of thing difrent. 225hp TT even have dual side intercoolers.

225hp has a ribbed reinforced block, lower compression, a larger turbo, larger injectors, 6 speed transmission, is horizantally mounted, forged internals, and the list goes on...

    Re: A4 1.8q & 225q 1.8 Tt?

    Ok! Thanks.
a4 turbo is making a test downpipe for the 1.8Q and my tech here says they are the same engine just inverted. So this catless pipe will not fit my 225Q TT!
a4 has pics of it in the classifieds. So this pipe will not fit.

    Re: A4 1.8q & 225q 1.8 Tt?

The TT225 is a transverse mounted motor.

    The 1.8T in the B5 & B6 A4 is longitudinal mounted.

    The downpipe is different.

The only thing similar between both motors is the engine block casting and the cylinder head casting. The internals of the motors are also different.

Wait a sec....Inverted? The TT 225 uses an upside down motor? No wonder they have to use those oil squirters.

The b5 a4 has forged internals as well, right?

    Re: A4 1.8q & 225q 1.8 Tt?

so if the AEB block has forged internals and all others after 99.5 dont, why have i always read that the rods should be swapped out at the same hp levels as the 2000+ b5 and b6 motors? Shouldnt stock forged internals be able to take alot more punishment, I come from the toyota scene and the 2JZ "no shit" can take 1000+ on its forged internals and the smaller but very simalar 1JZ has taken upwards of 800hp on stock block, am i missing somthing or are there just simply different levels of strength in forged internals?

    Re: A4 1.8q & 225q 1.8 Tt?

The rods are skinny. Forging allows for greater strength at a similar weight or similar strength at a lesser weight. Scats and other forged rods are much stronger than the stock ones.

    Re: A4 1.8q & 225q 1.8 Tt?

so did they just make then non forged internals of the later motors larger to compensate for the weaker materials? hense giving similar breaking points?

No idea. These are the stock rods and pistons from my 99.5 AEB.

And the rods that are in there now.

Pistons are the same but have 19mm wrist pins as opposed to the 20mm pins in the earlier models.

    Re: A4 1.8q & 225q 1.8 Tt?

yeah... what about the thickness of the rods themselves, I know they went from forged with 20mm wrist pin to the unforged 19mm wrist pin, and if a forged rod is stronger than an unforged rod and a 20mm wrist pin is stronger than a 19mm wrist pin why does everyone say to swap out the rods at the same hp levels, if the AEB internals are really that much better then why dont people give different levels to what each rod/piston combo can take?...really im interested because right now im looking at buying either a 98 a4 or an 01 a4 and im curious since all i have read is that you need to swap out rods for high power gt28 setups and above no matter what engine you have yet everyont says that the AEB internals are so much better... or is it really just a piece of mind kind of thing where they arent THAT much stronger but enough to feel more comfortable? or is it something totally different than anything i have said here?
