Is there a difference between a 5-speed transmission off of a 99 with AEB engine and drive by cable and a 2001 5-speed transmission with AWM engine and drive by wire?

    Re: Transmission Difference?

as long as both are 1.8T's there's no difference. If it's a 2.8, the gears will be longer, but everything will bolt up.

Tranny issues? wanna sell me your old busted one? send me a PM if interested

    Re: Transmission Difference?

    nope.
The 1.8's area all the same in the B5 chassis, as well as the 2.8's are the same in the B5 chassis, just longer gears in the 2.8 trans.

The quattro part is important, obviously you want to replace a quattro trans w/ another quattro trans.

I have a busted 2.8 trans if you want it, the input shaft is chewed up when it decided it didn't want to handle the 600whp anymore.

Yes, went back to my stock 1.8t that was in the car before I put in the 2.8. It just has better gearing for what I need for drag racing, the 2.8 just had to tall of gears putting me out of the power band in 4th and finishing way to low in the rpms. I went from 11.3 at high 120's to 10.6 at 135+ just with a tranny swap.

How hard is it to find internal transmission parts? B/c eventually I want a 2.8 trans. I just don't really want a busted one. I'm more interested in the center diff.

oh. One of the reasons I keep the 2.8 around since I use that center diff in the car and have my 1.8 for a spare.
