big turbo feels like what?

For those of you BT people... what would a big turbo feel like compared to a K04?

My car went from bone stock to a fully tuned K04 setup, and it was an amazing difference. Will a BT be the same type of feeling, or is it more high-rpm power?

I have fairly bad turbo lag as it is now, i imagine it gets worse with a BT.

It actually doesn't feel as strong down low - it is constant power vs. a surge of power

A KO4 is like having foreplay but she sends you home before the big grand finally. Having a Big turbo is skipping the foreplay and going straight to the Grand Finally.

depends what turbo you get. if you want spool close to the ko4, you get a 28rs .64 or a t3 super60, full boost by 3200-3300 and much more up top than the little ko4

I really hope you dont think your K04 is laggy! The bigger turbo I go, the more I like the powerband. Winston described it perfectly, feels like your going 40 and granny driving until you look down at the speedo and its booking around the dial like no ones business! Smooth and constant powerband FTW!

What happens when I tap the throttle in 2nd gear at 4000rpm with my BT setup is just ridiculous.

Once that turbo is spooled there is no lag. Just launch.

i would never call a BT setup smooth..
the onset of boost is smooth, gradual and linear, but when it hits full boost, it hits much harder and produces much more torque than the ko4...
The ko4 hits early with early torque spike and low power, but is definitely much smoother than anything else bigger

The power/torque onset is smoother, not the car itself (or the tach) lol

my t3/t4 was a tad bit laggy but when boost hit ~19psi it was like the whole car came alive and reared up on its back tires and just pulled like a mofo. The thing was that after about a month of that, I wanted MOAR!!!!

Mike, do you run a completely stock 5spd Trans? I'm worried about 3rd gear, everyone making more than 350whp has blown it, including myself a few months ago (n0t everyone but a handfull)..

Mike their are not many BAT A4's in socal (from what i know) there are a lot of BT cars though. Does this mean I can come over to your house and take your car for a spin around the block

I wonder if some mid-range cams would help with that.

Thats happens because the CFM doesn't start to really increase till after the turbo hits the boost you wish to run. The RPM the boost hits is the boost threshold, the time between that and the time you feel the power is boost lag.

i would like to see a video of a 1.8t pushing a 30r to 25lbs by ~4000rpms.. so if you can, please post on. cause that will difinately convince me to upgrade to BAT

In two weeks I'll take a vid once the car is up and running again and I'll floor it from 3000rpm in 3rd gear..

Wow... this turned out to be a good conversation. I guess what i'm feeling is torque spike, because i am definetly boosting, but for a second or two i get nothing and then all of the sudden, BAM .... i hit the powerband and I'm hauling ass.

I haven't decided to go BT yet (mostly due to lack of funds) but it's a possibility if the right setup shows up in the classifieds

well actually, in first gear, you your WG didn't open til almost 6k.. so i was going off of 2nd gear lag. and i couln't really judge 3rd..

but sounds good man. can't wait to see a vid.. there are plenty of BT vids out there. but not too many BAT vids.. especially in car

I PROMISE to have a vid up of in-car, driving around and an easy view of the tach from a 3rd gear roll so you can see exactly what's going on.

There woudldn't have been any respool time in 2nd if I was really shifting hard, I didn't rev out 1st at all AND I was spinning, which is why when it goes to 2nd, the wastegate doesn't open immediately.
