    New Engine / Oil Sludge

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So long story short. I thought I blew a head gasket, but really it was an oil sludge problem and my motor is blown.. TO make an even longer story shorter; If the warrenty department approves it I will be getting a new motor. My service manager says everything lookds good. I have all records of maintance and it was done on time. The only problem he says is that I didnt buy the car from an audi dealer and he says if we get someone that is having a bad day they can deny it. He thinks I deserve a new motor and he is going to fight for me. He said if they do warrenty it, he will give me a car to drive while it is getting fixed and it will take about 3 weeks. Also they are changing my fuel pump while it is in there do to the recall.

Good luck to me that I dont get someone that is mad at the world tomorrow when he calls!

Good lord, that has got to be nerve-racking.
Good luck man. Did you have all the records on file (hard copy), or did you just always bring it to the dealer for the major services?

Re: New Engine / Oil Sludge

Well my car will be done monday, finally I know. I got my job back in the oil field so I am making some serious cash again. I didnt end up getting the free motor like planned, but I finally saved up the cash to have the audi dealership put it in. I wanted it done right that is why I went with the dealership; besides they were only 300.00 more the what an independant shop quoted me.

My next big check will be sept 5th and I plan on getting a set of 19" rims, coil overs, exhaust, and FMIC. then sept 20th I will be getting Clutch, and maybe some stuff for a BT. Hopefully have a BT by the begining of OCT. I will get all supporting mods before I put on the turbo. Thinking about S4 brakes.

Should I do just an elim kit or something else? Goal is above 260AWHP I would like 300 but I know that will take alot more.

They didn't honor the warranty? That's some ol' bullshit. How much did it wind up costing you?

I guesstimate 3-4k range. You should of made them honor the warranty! I would of got legal help if I were you. You might of cameout a few hundred less but you would of made it clear that audi owners are not taking this selective warranty crap. Plus you could of bite the money bullet for us just kidding

holy shit.. for this much I would fight the dealer, Audi, and anything in my way till they replace the damn engine with a brand new one! I would very easily go to court for that matter. Whats the warranty good for if you have to pay $8000 on your car? Maybe Audi should pay more attention to this Sludge issue and put protective measures and warnings and sensors and I dont know what else.. myabe Auto-rx as well, but they should never charge the customer for an engine because they dont wanna cover it.

I had so many fights with my dealer, but at the end, I got EVERYTHING I wanted either fixed or replaced.

nice ass raping.. you seem quite happy about... it doesnt matter if u buy the car from the man on the moon, its a known problem. i would have raised hell till they covered it.. VW tried that shit when i hit a pothole and the car deployed my side airbags.. oh no sir, thats not covered, i spent nearly a whole day on the phone arguing with them but they repaired it for free!

This is ridiculous. Why should you fight all day for something they need to do. It is not a wear and tear item and it should be covered by the warranty that they stand by. What a loud of crap. Why should we have to fight with Audi to get something like this done. Since sludge is a known problem, you have the records, who cares if you bought the car at an Audi dealer or not? Sounds like a loud of manure they shoveling.

OP, you sound like you are easy about it. I guess when you got it like that with the money, "it ain't no thang but a chicken wang", but still...or are you simply omitting some details?

If that was me, I don't care how much money I make, if Audi needs to pay, they need to pay, I'll gladly write the $50 check for the CPO deductible.

Re: New Engine / Oil Sludge

I went through endless fights with Audi either refusing to replace parts or never calling me back to fix them. They start to act stupid, come up with 100 excuses, and EVEN lie so they dont cover things. Am totally tired of their service and customer support/service.

At the end, I ALWAYS end up letting them pay everything. Thats what warranty is for for god's sake. I just keep on calling and calling and calling and arguing and arguing...

The other day my car just TOTALLY broke out of nowhere in the middle of a major street and it did not move one inch. IF you hit the gas paddle it will go 120KMH but u actually at 0 KMH doing a noise like its the last day of its life.. They took it, called me back telling me "I was lucky" that its covered under warranty.. so am like, what do you mean Lucky, if you dont cover this, then whats your warranty good for???

As far as they said, it was the camshaft that broke and they replaced it. And at that time I was driving nicely and slowly, a turn on a red light, and bam! Car frozen and would not even think to move.

Re: New Engine / Oil Sludge

I did fight them and so did my service manager. I wish I would have seen the motor for 800.00. Now when I go to the dealership I get treated like a god. I usually get rushed to the front of the line to have anything done.

all and all it is done and over with, my car is paid off too now. looking to finally go BT, I wanted to have my car paid off first. I got a lil less then 10k on the motor. New clutch, FP flywheel. anyways I just started a new thread about that. Just to let everyone know though. Yes I did take it up the ass from the dealership/independant shops but it is over with and there was nothing I could do about it. I fought for months on it and glad I finally got it back and driving it. Right now that is all that matters to me. Thinking about getting something like an rsx for a daily work driver and use the audi when i go BT as a night/weekend thing. Looking to pay cash for the rsx. anyone know of any good deals?

i love how you said they were "fighting"for you to get a new motor then you magically dont get it even though you have all the records. did you enjoy your ass raping at the dealer? they always tell you that then deny it.. awwww im soooo sorry they denied your claim. good news though, you now owe me $$$$$$ for you motor

news flash, it doestn matter if you bought the car on the moon, if you have all the records, they HAVE to warranty it, you should have fought that tooth and nail!

since you are going BT, you should have upgraded some stuff in your motor so you could either go BAT or just have a really solid motor

I've had the oil pressure light come on my car for the past few weeks. I've brought it into the dealership 3 times and they've claimed they have "fixed" my car, but the light still comes on. Please see my original thread: http://audizine.com/forum/showthread.php?t=250851

I have another appointment this Friday with the dealership for them to see what is up. They said it maybe a sludge issue, so if it is they better give me a new engine as well!

oh well, shit happens. My car is paid for now too (paid off in just over a year), and now im going BT, not BAT. Im just looking for around 250awhp(ish). already have some parts ordered and on their way and looking to maybe pick up the 71r elim from 7speed, but not 100% sure if im gonig to go that route yet or not. Still more reading on the forums. Cause like you, I am not a genious about cars. I just know enough to get me by and get ass rapped by the stealership. Maybe next time I can have you fight my battles.

You have to keep one thing in mind. The dealership will actually try to fight for you to get an engine replaced, but it wont go further. From a dealer's perspective its one client (you) vs. Audi (their core business + license, etc). They will very easily give you up for Audi. At that point taking Audi to court would be the only way to get your $$ back. As soon as a dealer tells you its Audi that does not want to do the replacement, they are done.

lol, it did! i hit the pothole which admittedly was fairly large but it didnt damage anything else but when i hit it, BAM and the cabin flooded with smoke.. truthfully i didnt even understand what happened. i pulled over and cut off the airbags. my arm was burned from the side airbags. i took the car to gosset VW and they told me to shove off pretty much because i was out of warranty. I called VOA and was polite but insisted there is no way you can hit a pothole and have airbags go off (if i was argueing for the sludge, its a KNOWN issue! ) they said no of course and i insisted that i would file a claim with the Transportation agency. They asked me to bring it back to gossett VW for an "inspection". The guy at Gossett immediately came running out screaming that my car was "damaged" underneath and that they werent paying for anything. i asked them to show me and he took me to the jacking points on the car. I laughed and asked if he was serious. i told him what it was and got all pompus about it. He tried pointing out a scratch on the belly pan and i again laughed at him. He said he was filing with VOA as a damaged vehicle. When they called me, i told them i wanted to see the pictures he provided. I argued that jacking points and belly pans normally incurred scratches and whatnot from everyday use. They called me the next day and apologized and said to take it in to gossett for free repair

They called me the next day and apologized and said to take it in to gossett for free repair
lol, hell yeah, So ill buy you a plane ticket to salt lake city and you can go in and take care of everything for me?? beer and food is on me too. I wonder if there is a way to fight it and say that I just found out it is a known issue, and threaten and do all that shit with them.... or if it is to late.

Ummm... for future reference check this site 1st. U spent a lot of money where a small extra amount would have taken u sooo much further.

A built crate stock longblock motor is $3800-4100:

    Eurospec Standard Engines

Performance longblock built rods/pistons/crank roughly $6000:

man if i had all the records (as you state you do) i would sue the living hell out of that dealership (or audi) there is no way in hell anybody in their right mind would pay 8K for a new motor...if they did that to me i would burn the audi dealership down and then burn the car down and get the insurance money. I hope you're rich and you have 8K to throw away like that otherwise you're not a very smart guy bro. im not trying to offend you or anything but thats fuckin crazy!

I agree with you. I took 2 dealerships to court for $1400, 50% because of the monetary value, and 50% because there were are a bunch of liars who do not not deserve the Audi license.

but $8000 is a lot of money to be spent when you have warranty! Does not matter how much you making a month. If you make $100,000 a year, thats about 10% of your salary after taxes. 10% is not a "little". Imagine spending this cash on a GTRS, some really nice mods, and you would probably still have left over for shopping, LOTS of food and even a little laptop.

When I'm making lots of $$, its the PERFECT time to save it up when I am not employed or when I dont have a contract at hand, or when I feel like going on a trip, mod my car, spend on my GF, have excellent food, etc.

In fact "LUCK" had nothing to do with it. I bought my car when it was 14mths old from the first buyer and never had a problem with warantee claims.
In fact I still get all the warantee calls and literature from the dealer.
In fact the literature says if I am not the owner I should let them know who it is to transfer the warantee to. This is cause after all my free warantee expired and I started paying then I started doing my own oil changes and maintenance and disappeared from their dealership.
In fact take a lil money get a lil lawyer and GO GET 'EM. AND unless they paid u for a rental car GET EM for that too.
After all u can afford a few days off and any lawyer should be able to support u with his eyes closed while mentally working on his next case. . . .in fact

that was a really bad move just paying and not fighting it till you got it right. Just cause you have the money to spend doesnt make it ok to do so; spending like that pretty soon youll be broke dick lol (i hope not tho) If nothing else i would at least go back in in a very good mood, tell them the motor is doing well, and then in a prefessional way demand money back or free service or somethingl if they refuse tell them you are going to sue and do so. Thats what i would do bc for 8Gs you could have gone to QED and got a built motor, maybe head work, turbo, others good stuff, some drugs : ), and then got some money back from your "sludgy" engine.
