well i currently own a 2001.5 S4 (TIP) 95,000 miles on it and i really want to get rid of it only because its an automatic and Im so bored and just over the auto thing, i feel really slow in it..And a stock 2000 S4 Laser Red 88,000 miles on it (6-speed) has come across and im really stuck on if i should get this..I drove it and it seriously felt as fast as my TIP (apr exhaust, Apr chip,) ....So should i or no....Other choice of car would be an EVO or a beater and save my money.... I cant decide

Re: S4 to another S4...Convince me....

How far do you commute every day? My 6-spd was my DD for quite a while until I could no longer deal with driving her in SoCal traffic every morning. Ended up getting an auto Infiniti as my new DD.

But there's nothing better than hopping in the S on the weekends and tearing PCH apart as I row through the gears...

Re: S4 to another S4...Convince me....

To be honest, it's a toss up. I've seen low-mileaged CPO'd S4s with immaculate service records blow the turbos/tranny within a few thousand miles of the new owner making the purchase. Then, you have the other end of the spectrum. Older, more used cars that somehow last beyond 150,000 with the K03's.

I haven't had any problems (that weren't my own fault) with the S4 since the day I bought her. I have had my tranny rebuilt, but that was due to my own mis-shifting while dragging the car to death after the first round of mods. I'll say this much: I've dumped about $3,500-$4,000 in the car on top of what I paid for her, and I'd do it all over again in a heartbeat.

I've personally had a WRX and I have on buddy with an EVO and another buddy with an STI. These cars are really quick but you still get the feeling that you're driving around in a teenage girls first car. In fact my buddys STI feels like a tin can compared to my first generation USA WRX. I'd go with the 6spd s4.

Yeah you gotta expect to put money in it but I wouldn't give mine up for anything. Like said before I would do it again without even thinking about it.

Re: S4 to another S4...Convince me....

Stick with the S4. Evo's can be made stupidly fast/powerful for a mere fraction of what it costs us S4 owners. If I had the option, I'd take the Evo, but the S4 just says things.

Save your money, sell your s4, and use the money to put a down payment on a B8 s4 6 speed

I personally have owned my 6-speed 2000 S4 in Philadelphia traffic for almost a year now. It has 143,000+ miles, the original K03s, and I beat this car up on occasion. You will never regret getting a stick, because traffic will ALWAYS go away, the automatic transmission will not.

Thats a clean low miles S4, get it. I test drove an Evo before and I wasn't sold on it. It makes no power below 3500rpms and you better have both hands on the steering wheel because one twitch and you are in the next lane. Plus the interior is crap and the wing blocks all view out the back.
