...my neighbor Chen pulled up in a brand new Lexus IS-F today. First one I've seen in person. Beautiful shade of blue, and the diamond black 19" wheels really set the color of perfectly. It was idling and I could hear the rumble from a considerable distance before I could actually see the car. Sick car, all around, but I still prefer a 6spd and the Audi interior w/ 2-tone Recaros.

Then in a recent car mag, (think it was the latest Motortrend) they did a review and said the exact same thing. Nice try Lexus, but there are just too many things wrong with this thing to make it a real contender. BTW, the Lexus was placed 3rd overall vs the BMW M3 and C63 AMG. Not sure why the RS4 wasn't included in the review - maybe it's too old already.

rs4 is no longer made. thats why. and anyways, i would never shell out that kind of money for an IS. my sister has a is250 and the interior layout and quality was soooo poor compared to the S4. and the drive is terrible as well. as is the transmission. she couldnt wait to get rid of it either. ended up getting a Q7

Just so you know the exaust was only like that on the preproduction models...the ones that they sell to the public have the exaust connected....like its not all one pipe..but its one into another not like, just connected to the bumper and nothing else....

The LS exhaust is the same. I can say, my bro owns a lexus dealer and I drove an IS-f, while it is quite a bit quicker than my S4, it is more comparable to a passat to me. I get Lexus's below cost (and audis for cost), I came out of an IS250AWD and my wife an RX330, and I did not re-up, Me=S4, wife=Q7. I couldn't. While I wold have saved a TON of cash, I like performance! Lexus is a Luxury brand automobile. Their best cars are the ES, LS and LX. All the others fall short of being a well rounded car that it is meant to be. The Blue is a Hot Color though.

Sorry I beg to differ. Unless Motor Trend was testing a pre-production car, those exhaust tips aren't connected to anything. Quote from Motortrend -

I was just at a Lexus dealership last week and no they aren't connected. There are 4 exhaust tips behind them, the tips are just for show though. Stupid..

Reminds me of a Toyota echo or something that I saw with a body kit and quad exhaust.. only it was cold and you can see only one of them was operational as there was no smoke coming out of the others.. and they were all shiny and clean while the one that operational was black.. LOL what a fool..

As everyone said before you still have the nicest blue car in town. Those things are FUGGGGGGLLLLYYYY. I will never view Lexus as a performance brand unless they come out with something that is truly jaw dropping

Asthetically Speaking; Color is one thing (and frankly that's just a paint job) but the overall package, look, stance, etc. is what counts :)

All of you guys are crazy!! I have an IS350 and love it. For what it is, it's a superb car. Would I take it over my S on a canyon run...hell no! Do I take it over my S for long distance hauls...you betcha! It's a reliable, nice car that has sporting tendencies.

In terms of the ISF, in dark colors, it actually looks very nice. However, I'm not a fan of any light colored ISF's....I can't get passed the slit just behind the front wheels.

Honestly, I think the ISF is a remarkable achievement for a first time entry into the sports car/sedan world. Sure, it's not as fun to drive as the M3 and not as torque crazy as the C63, but if you are looking for a fun, reliable daily driver that can keep up with almost anything on the road or in the canyons with an amazing service department behind you, I don't think it can be beat.

I agree, the 350 (250 is the biggest POS! I liked my 02 V6 Passat much better!)is well worth the $$ performance wise, personally, I think that the F is out classed for the $$. If they introduced it @ the price of an S4, like around $50k, if would be a different story. You are right about the service too!!!!

I played around with one the other night, we did several runs and that thing was pretty fast. I think Lexus did alright for there first try. There was one @ the dealer that was fairly loaded and the sticker was only 58k.

I really dislike the juvenile ricer styling of the Lexus. The exhaust tips look bad and the widened front looks really amateurish. But I would LOVE to drive one for a weekend.

I think people should stop knocking the tailpipes. First of tips are mainly aesthetic and having them not connected to the exhausts means no clean up. Audi also makes a piece of shit with fake exhausts and it's called the Continental GT.

There is one thing to have fake tips, but 4 horizontally positioned clearly FAKE tips, RICEY! And deserves criticism.

You can tell they didn't take the time to engineer this Rice-F, that engine bay is a mess.
Working on that thing will cost so much money.

But you cannot deny that its a monster on the track, Dont quote me on this, but im pretty sure it matched the new M3's track time on the nur. or at least thats what I heard. It will need some revisions for sure, the engine was just way too big that they put into it, thus the hood bulge, the side vents on the fenders were not a good add on along with the exhaust. But that 8 speed thing is actually really fast and a lot better than a 6 speed you have a lot easier gear transitions and you can better control the revs.

Personally I like it, just not the hood, and I would immediately do an exhaust swap, because that top on top exhaust just is a no go for me.
