Hey Guys...been reading the forums on here for about a year now. And i'm looking at purchasing a B5 in the next week. I want to spend between 6-8 grand for a 1999-2001 A4 1.8TQM.

And one last question. What should i look for? I know i need to watch out for the timing belt and find out when it was last done. And make sure all the electrical stuff works. Anything else i should look at?

Control Arms is definitely something to look for.

If timing has been done and control arms look good, I say offer 6200 and that looks like a clean car.

looks like a clean whip, not a bad price at all. Check is out by a mechanic and if suspension and timing belt stuff checks out fine then go for it.

Thanks for the help guys. I'm going down to the used stealership tomorrow and taking it for a spin, gonna have it inspected at a local automotive shop and work out a deal with them.

So two major things to look at:

Timing Belt
Control Arms

How often should the belt be changed?

Looks like a solid car. I'd say go for it so long as the upper control arms are in good condition and it runs/drives well. Just use common sense! Also, definitely get a vehicle history report and make sure it hasn't been anywhere where they salt the roads in the winter time such as Colorado. I came across an A4 from Colorado when I was searching and it was probably the cleanest one I looked at but the drivers side door was about to fall off due to the amount of rust it had.
