034 16lb steel fly vs. Southbend 20lb steel fly

Anyone know the differences or pros/cons between these two steel fly's? I'm running a SB FE SS clutch BTW. I see the Southbend fly is more expensive (+$80) and 4lbs heavier (20lbs). I would guess there would be less noise with the heavier SB fly? My audi mech friends are trying to steer me clear of using the DM fly again with the power I'll be pushing... they don't think it will last any length of time if I'm launching it. 40 years of audi experience between the 2 guys so I would say they know a bit more than me.

Being you have a southbend now, I would run that, as Im sure it was meant for that flywheel. Even at 20lbs, you are still saving alot of weight in switching over.
    Cheers! David

DM is fine for launching, Adrian (our tech) launches at 6k with almost 700whp with a stock DM flywheel in a R32, SB clutch was shot after 8 months but the flywheel is still perfect

Re: 034 16lb steel fly vs. Southbend 20lb steel fly

    I had Spec's LWFW in my 2004 A4, and it was basically identical to 034's @ 16lbs.

On my 6-speed gearbox, it allowed alot of noise @ 1900-2100 rpms, if you tractored/logged it thru that rpm range.

The 4 extra pounds of Southbends flywheel will reduce this noise slightly, but probably not eliminate it.

Re: 034 16lb steel fly vs. Southbend 20lb steel fly

Ordered the 034 16lb fly. No reason to pay more for a heavier piece... Mike says he does not notice any unwanted noise with his setup.
With how many DM failures on stock low mileage engines my audi friend tech has seen in the last couple years, I decided to go for this option. I had the aasco 9lb fly and was about to put it in my last build but sold it cause it was too light for my tastes. I've been waiting some time to find a steel single mass fly option in the 16lb range. If Mike has it, it must be the best right?

I have only 1500 miles on my Lucas OEM Dual Mass Fly and it is diamond ground to flat from a taper by Andy@SB clutch just recently (so virtually no clutch break-in if the PP is ground flat too). If anyone is interested, it will be for sale...
