What is Tiptronic?

Hi,

I am looking for a 2007 or 2008 A4 Auto with Quattro, does that give me a tiptronic transmission? What is a tiptronic transmission? Is that the shifters on the steering wheel?

I believe any Auto transmission in the '07/'08 model year is Tiptronic. Actually, I can't remember when Audi introduced the tiptronic trans. but I have it in my '02. Tiptronic transmissions give you the ability to bump through the gears using the shift stick. From the "D" position, the stick slides to the passenger side where there is a "+" and "-". In this position you can bump the stick forward to upshift and pull it back to downshift. I don't think Audi has put paddle shifters (on the steering wheel) on the '07/'08; I know I don't have them on my '07 Avant.

You need to get the S-Line package for steering wheel paddles.

all the 2008's have paddles, it's part of the special edition package, which I think also includes s-line exterior as well

Tiptronic was introduced in 95/96, and it was put on porsche in 1996.

It's actually 'CVT', not CTV.
