More than likely will be doing a head gasket job tomorrow...

As somewhat determined in this thread tomorrow I'll probably be taking my head off. I'm then leaving for Atlanta on Wednesday, at which point my friend would have to take over and finish the job. I know he'll do a mint job (hes 10x more knowledgeable than me) but I hate not being able to do the work on my car.

Seeing as this better be the only time I take the head off my car (barring an 8500rpm rev limiter mod) what should I do while I'm in there? Compression changes? My buddy will be cleaning up the head and could do some machining if I asked him to. Right now my list is...
    • Paint IM/VC black
    • Replace crankcase breather hose (mines broken)

And to do all of this... the parts list:

I think thats about it... Should be a cool $150 all said and done.

I'm sure it will be . I'm actually more pissed off at spending the $200 on a new MAF because I thought that was the problem. I'm pretty sure I'm going to spend every last dime to my name tomorrow. Its gonna cut reallll close. 17 years old for. the. lose.

The game plan is to wakeup whenever my friend gives me the go ahead to start tearing stuff down, which will happen after his boss at the engine shop he works at confirms that its more than likely the head gasket. At this point of troubleshooting its the only thing that makes relatively any kind of sense. We're thinking its a small hole between cylinders 3 and 4, which is why the misfires always occur on those cylinders with new spark plugs, MAF, different coil packs, 5000 mile old ICM and confirmed functionality of the injectors. This hole apparently only opens when the engine is ~100 degrees Fahrenheit though
