B7 A4 or B6 S4? Can't Decide!

I'm currently looking at a Black on Black 2006 B7 A4 with S-Line package and Tip and 56k miles. On the other hand, I'm also looking at black on black 2005 B6 S4 with 6MT and 34k miles. Which one would you go with, and for what reasons?

Yeah the S4 has just about sold me on the power, but the looks of the B7 are the only thing holding me back, and the A4 I'm looking at is in fantastic condition. Ugh...decisions, decisions...

Tiesto, are you satisfied with the power of your A4? What mods have you done to it. The thing that is attracting me to the S4 is the sound and out-of-the-box power of the V8, which I don't get from the 2.0T.

For the 10 years that I've owned and modified forced induction cars, I could've afforded the gas and the mods for a car with a V8.

Let's see, the only reasons you would pick the B7 in this scenario would be a) you cannot drive stick, b), you cannot afford the gas, and c) you somehow love higher mileage cars. The S4 is the superior car in this scenario.

In the last 10 years the cost of gas has gone up considerably.

The difference is about $1000 dollars a year on gas. Not to mention the V8 isn't exactly cheap to mod, or as plentiful.

The S4 is older, and the B7 is improved a lot over the B6.

the only way to tell is to drive both. if i were in your shoes, i'd pick the s4 hands down. peppy inline-4's are fun, but shit, this is a case where "bigger is better". especially since you have twice the displacement, twice the cylinders, and twice the gas-guzzling power!!!

In this case I would say B6 S4, and I have a B7 A4. Now if the B6 S4 had 50K miles already, I would say pass as well...

Aren't the B6 s4's somewhat unreliable? I remember reading some horror stories in the B6 s4 forum.

and even if the S4 was automatic, it would still be better than any stock A4.

In this situation...B6 S4. It's manual, perfroms better, looks better (opinion), and has less miles.

However...the A4 is newer, easier to drive...auto, cheaper to insure, cheaper to fuel, and the S-Line is a nice package.

This is apples vs oranges. With the S4 being all performance, and the A4 being more economical. Only YOU can decide what takes priority.
