Spare Key

I was wondering what the cheapest way to get a spare key is. I dont need another one of the main keys, just one that would unlock the doors. with my GTI it cost like $8 but when i asked a local dealer they said something about programing a key even if all i want it to do is unlock a door (manually unlock the door). they said it would cost close to $100. any help?

The dealer told me to buy and program a spare key it is around $300. So I still have one key.

When I bought my car, they gave me 2 sets of normal keys, a valet key (metal with plastic fob, doesn't flip open), and a full plastic one that he said could be used to only unlock doors (would not start the engine). That makes me think it isn't programmed, so I can't imagine it would cost $100...

soooo...you're saying i should be able to get one of the plastic keys that would only open the doors? cheap?
