After class, we were looking for some fun and decided to change valve cover gasket for my friend's and my A4. Here are some pix...during the thing...

    I need to re-do mine.....

mainly because i want to polish it off the car!

Oh and Shawn...it was NOT that easy for me.....there were all those airlines in the way and the oil feed line was also tied into the valve cover as well.....I dont why everyone says it is super easy, but for my car it took for ever!!

maybe they changed it after 2002?

I can change mine in 5 min or less ... and forgot about all that crap thats SUPPOSED to bolt to it on the side, lol. And the crankcase vent, but thats a quick clamp, just squeeze it with plyers and slide it off

Helps when nothings in the way!

And whoever asked what to clean it with, brake cleaner works well

Re: Just replaced Valve gaskets...took some pix.

Simple Green and water did the trick on mine. Seems less noxious than brake cleaner, so I don't have to open my garage door when it's -10 outside.
Yes, the newer 1.8T (AMB) has a lot more stuff on the valve cover than on the older B5 (AEB).

I replaces my valve cover gasket less than 10k miles ago....if I take my valve cover off to polish it and clean the underside (I was too tied the first time , lol) can I reuse my USED valvecover gasket?

Wheres the cheapest place to buy one?

Also where are the six points to put RTV? I only put them in 4 points last time and it still leaks a bit....

Passatworld to the rescue! This is for the AWM engine - should be pretty similar for AMB and AEB, except for maybe a few bits and pieces you have to remove to get the valve cover off.

The Haynes manual (B5) has a little picture of a DIY cam tensioner tool that might be worth investigating.

I couldnt figure anything out with the AMB. I got an hour in and had to put it all back together. I gotta go buy a whole whack of rings to replace the one time use clips
