    Court tomorrow (verdict)

    flame suit on...

so im in need of advice. ive got court tomorrow, i was pulled over back in september, H20i weekend on MD rt 50, just outside vienna (if anyone knows the area) on my way back to school. Traffic had just cleared up, and i was the only car on that particular straightaway. I still have no idea where the cop saw me,but he did and I was clocked at 108, speed limit 55... I know it was a stupid move, and irresponsible, and dangerous, and i havent driven like that since, safe to say i learned my lesson. I was wondering if anyone has any advice for the courtroom tomorrow. I've researched all kinds of get out of tickets schpeals, but i dont think any of that will help me out... i cant really argue i didnt know the speedlimit was about half what i was doing...

so far for the judge ive got : I know this was a serious lapse in judgment and the first and last mistake of this kind.
... and i dont really know what else i should say. there isnt any real way to defend what i did.

i know im going to get a few serves you right responses, and believe me, i know. but if anyone has any advice, id really appreciate it.

pray that the cop doesn't show and your ticket gets thrown out....

I have had tickets like this in the past...if it has been more than 18 months since your last traffic school, if the judge is nice he/she will let you go to traffic school

no matter what you are looking at a 3-500$ ticket :(

    Re: Court tomorrow

I had a 106 in a 45 a while back, big mistake. Anyways, i had a lawyer and and out of the 8 citations came out with only two, but the two got me about 10 points on my license and 3200 dollars in fines. Needless to say it hurt and i am sorry that it took all of that for me to learn my lesson. Be prepared to feel the pain my friend!

First question he will ask you is if you pleading not guilty or leniacy. You want to say leanicy. Let us know how it works out, really all depends on the judge. You are going to get served though. Don't worry, ive been there to

yeah the citations are for reckless driving ($530 ticket) and speeding ($510) and that combined should put me at 11 points... i think i was 2 mph away from a felony

Be sure to let the judge know that you are a post-secondary student! And if you live on your own, pay for your own schooling, etc. Worked for me. But I'm in Canada. Apologize for your mistake. Most importantly, ALWAYS call the judge "Your Honour". Calling him sir, dude, man is not a good idea.

edit: One time, I got let off a ticket because I pushed back the court date twice, and the cop never showed.

    Re: Court tomorrow

In ga speeding is a misdemeanor, i had 61 over i would know. Maximum punishment for a misdemeanor in ga is 12 months in jail or up to $1000 fine. This is for any misdemeanor. Insurance has onyl since gone from 188 to 210 a month for full coverage. Not to bad considering the severity of the infraction.

Also here in ga you can try to plead "no lo" once i believe every 3 or 5 years for the same thing, but the judge can deny the plea. It is not an admission of guilt, it would allow you to have no points on your license, but you would still take the punishment. I dont think though that a judge would take a "no lo" plea on almost double the speed limit but it might be worth a shot. You will probably be better off just trying to talk to them into defensive driving, community service, fines, and possibly even probation of some sort for a guilty plea. Its not going to be pretty either way though, good luck.

PS: I would advise dressing in some thing nice, not jeans and a t-shirt sort of thing. I wore a tie, white button up shirt and black slacks. I would make sure you look as presentable to a judge as possible. Remember it is more than likely going to be a stuffy, old fashioned, up tight old white guy. Although sometimes they are pretty cool, if your lucky.

You're right for most states, i know in NC or SC, once you have exceeded 25mph over the posted limit it goes from just speeding to speeding with reckless driving and then its a felony. I'm not familiar with the laws in Ga or any other state but i know in NC and SC it is.

Be as nice as possible is the best thing i can say. Hope they dont take your license man.

In NC, police can take your license and you to jail for anything 15mph over the speed limit. If you are from another state, they can also take you directly to jail. Nopi honda kids know all about not speeding through NC on their way to ATL haha. seen the tickets in superstreet lol

saw lots of people get pulled when i went to Nopi last year...

never been, but my friend was in court for doing 97 in a 55 in CT... i was actually going faster, but he was in the passing lane... anyway he was faced with a hell of a lot of citations, got a lawyer, showed up and the judge threw it out with 80hrs of community service... no points, no fines... because he dressed nice, and was polite... when everyone else that day aparently hadn't been, so she(judge) was really pleased with his presentation... so take the previous members advice, wear something nice, and be POLITE!... good luck...

definitely agree, ive always plead not guilty and have had to go back a few times. Just be very respectful, look them in the eyes, and dress up for court every time. My worst ticket was 21 over and only had to pay 250 (cheap for NY fines.) No points on my license and definitely learned my lesson. Usually the officers have been no-shows for me and hopefully that happens to you too. Good luck man and keep us updated

well i just got back. they threw out the reckless driving charge, cause driving in a straight line isnt really reckless the judge said. so i did have to pay the fine (530) and get the points (5) but just for the speeding charge. so pretty much i got everything reduced in half. dang i feel better...

In MD, 12 is revocation, 6 suspension, 5 they call you in for a stern conference at the MVA/DMV and you may have to take a driving improvement course.

When I was 16 I was paying $360 for liability-only through Progressive on a totalled 1993 Dodge Spirit. That is what 3 accidents and 3 speeding tickets will get you! I was 2 weeks away from losing my license for too many violations in a two year period.

I DID get out of a B.S. careless driving ticket with only a defensive driving course...

glad to hear you got that cut in half, coulda been a lot worse. I got an 88 in a 55 down in maryland (on 95) since it was out of state only got 2 points and a 280 fine. The cop was real cool, I could have gotten so many more tickets (was on provisional). But I did have to go to a DMV traffic school, 2 tickets totaling more than 4 points in first year of driving. That 4 hour class SUCKED, but got 3 points taken off my license. Look into taking a safe driving course, in NJ it will take off 2 points, but idk about MD

wow east coast fines are bitch, here in Illinois is 75 if you do 30 under and 95.00 if you do 30 over, no wonder midwesterners don't know how to drive.

i got a ticket too doing 80 on 55 so with traffic school combined it only cost me 105.00

    Re: Court tomorrow (verdict)

I learned this Tip from a cop friend of my dads. In california anyways, if you lose to the courts and you owe a fine that sucks. But there is a way to delay itfrom showing up on your record. When you pay the fine write a check for a dollar over the amount you owe. That ticket cannot become official on your record until they process a refund. The refund usually takes them over a year to process. I did it when I was 18 for a 300 speeding ticket and I didnt see it on my record until I was 19 and a half. Just wanted to share this little tip for ya. Not sure if it works in other states though. Good Luck

^^haha would the court even accept a check for not the EXACT amount? Seams to me like they would be very annoyed if you handed them a $301 check for a $300 ticket ha
