Looking to change my tip shifter, has anyone done this?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I tried searching but couldn't find a thread on here about anyone changing it out. Mine is just too bulky. The only one I have seen is the s6 one from madaudi.

    TIA!

I think it will but I'm not positive. Not a bad price either, about 130 bucks. I think the standard a4 one is clunky and cheaply made.

I came across this when I wanted to do it before, but never went through with it. If you do it tell me how it comes out:

I always thought a shifter from the C6 A6 (with a leather boot) would look cool, but no one has attempted it yet.

Don't have sline and don't like paddles, feels like my logitech controller.

I came from manual to auto. And I miss shifting, so i have recently started using my tip more. And has brought new life to my audi. I just want a better shifter.

Shifters without the DSG are pretty slow I felt compared to the actuall tiptronic shifter..I had a loaner with the paddles, it was fun, but the tiptronic shifter seemed faster and more reliable when u had to get to a certain gear..

paddle shifters are the only reason that i bought this car over some of the other things i looked at. I use them all the time to downshift and they feel sporty

+1, plus I love the fact that even in D I can hit the - paddle to downshift a few gears temporarily instead of having to put it into the tip gate first. Great for passing, or going up/down hills.

So how was the installation? Straight forward or did you have to do any modification? Where did you pick up the shifter from if you don't mind me asking? Thanks.

I purchased the shifter from MadAudi. There's a diy out there somewhere, I just can't seem to find it.

I found the writeup. So the switchout to the S6 shifter will work per that writeup? I thought I read somehwere that this was tried before without success but I guess that was wrong. Thanks again.

It worked for me. I just remember it being a bitch to get the old shifter off. If all else fails take to the dealership and have a tech install it. I can't imagine it costing much to install. I would lend a hand if you were closer.
Good luck! You won't be disappointed once its installed. I hated the look and the bulkness of the stock shifter.

Just wanted to give an update on my post from this thread. I installed the S6 shifter on my 2006 S4 and I had to make a small modification to get it to fit. Nothing major and it fits perfect now. If anyone is going to do this mod and has any questions about what I had to do, PM and I will let you know. Joseph
