    Hello

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hi all,

Just acquired a CPO B6 S4 Avant two weeks ago. I can't believe I convinced the wife that it's a family car Two weeks later she drives the thing like Jeremy Clarkson from Top Gear shouting "POWER!!!!"

Since I also own an old MGB I plan on doing a lot of the maintenance on the S4 myself. I've subscribed to Bentley's eBahn online stuff and have been reading over the various scheduled maintenance things.

    Just a few questions then:
    1) Is VAG-COM full version a good investment for someone like me?
    2) Where do you SoCal guys go for the consumables on these cars? Oil filters, plugs, b-pads etc...

    Thanks,
    Eric

    Re: Hello

I recommend getting some top quality oil. Lubro-Moly, Motul, Elf, AMS are all great synthetics. Choose one and stick with it for the rest of the car's life. These should have the Volkswagen 502.00 certification. Make sure the oil has that!

You're going to need 10 quarts of oil for the change, so make sure your pan can hold that much.

    Here's a link for Lubro-Moly:

    Here's a link for Motul:

    Here's a link for AMS:
    https://www.amsoil.com/storefront/afl.aspx

I personally use Lubro-Moly, and I'm totally happy with it!

    Good choice in family car!

    welcome, and post some pics!

    Re: Hello

Thanks for the links! Definitely been reading up on the oil threads here so I'm already convinced that I should use the properly rated synth stuff.

I'm planning on doing the K&N and have noted the threads on over oiling the filter.

I'm just on the fence about the VAG-COM thing. I know that the owners manual details reseting the service reminder, but I would also like to see what the ECU is recording just to make sure I'm getting the most out of my CPO warranty.

    Re: Hello

VAG-COM is nice to have, but probably not necessary if you won't be modifying the engine much or at all. Something you might like can be found here:
    http://www.audizine.com/forum/showthread.php?t=201612

It will do everything the VAG-COM can, but only monitor one channel at a time. Also, it's cheaper and the palm can be easily be stored in glove box or compartment under the seat (as opposed to laptop). I have one in my car and it's been great for me, but I also have a supercharged 3.0 so I'm more closely monitoring the ECU than someone with a stock 4.2L. Anyway, if you ever get codes it'll pay for itself quickly by avoiding going to the dealer first.

    Re: Hello

It was a Thursday evening, tall skinny guy. We did the deal that night and they stayed until about 9:00-ish detailing it. The light is just right in those photos but under something more direct you'll see that it needs correction. I spent a half day cleaning/waxing the rims not too long after that, interior parts of them were black with brake dust.
