    CVT= doesn't care

FWD loves the extra power reaching the front wheels, not being lost through Quattro.

Ha, way to get defensive. If you honestly think a CVT FWD car is better than the alternative, then there is no rationalizing with you. Good day.

That wasn't the point, there is no reason to bash FWD or CVT.
FWD and a CVT is superior to AWD and a 6 speed automatic in many ways, and vise versa.

    Re: 7speed

I know how a CVT works and My father has a ford five hundred as a work car with cvt. This one has gears, and you can shift via padles. i dont understand. my fathers feels like an endless gear this one does not. could it be when shifting gears im just choosing different points at which the bands are at.

    Re: 7speed

yah, they purposely simulate 7 set "gears" for people who don't like how CVT feels (the lack of revving and lack of gear change)

i stated my opinion after having a CVT loaner and it sucking major ass... no reason to get your panties in a bunch... some people don't want the quattro... some do... some want the manual... and some don't.

I think the simulation of the 7 gears is kind of bullshit... kind of defeats the purpose of a CVT... no?

    Re: 7speed

a4's cvt have a "sports mode" and only does it simulate the 7 gears in sports mode. In normal mode, it's just regular cvt with no/infinite "gears"

And to add some real information...

CVT = Continuously Variable Transmission... which means that it is one "gear"... however, as stated before, Audi simulates the feel of a tiptronic... They could've put 9 "gears" if they wanted to.

If they wanted to simulate the tiptronic so bad why not 6 gears?

If you're going to buy a FWD A4, you might as well have bought the Passat.

Hell, you could even get the 3.6L out of the deal too with the money you save.

    Re: 7speed

Ok So I feeel bad for the CVT guys here cause I have a CVT . I will start By saying that I did want a Quattro from the start ... I just couldn't wait for one to arrive in 3 months and no local dealer had one in stock. So Anyways I test drove my CVT on a rainy evening and was impressed. Coming from the Honda world of cars it felt just right. Yes traction control kicks on more than it should in the rain .. but I was used to the front end slip my Previous Honda. So to make a long story short ... Yes My next car will be a quattro there is no doubt about that. I live in Cali so I dont worry about rain to much ... I've gone on a canyon run and can keep up with the Quattro cars , My addiction is freeway speed currently so my advantage is the FWD due to less powertrain loss and lighter car. I do have very good experience with FWD maybe thats why its worked out for me... getting a quattro will be a learning experience for me and change my driving style. SO to each His own ... FWD works for some .. but not for all ... either way .. Its still an Audi ... and that is why I bought it in the first place.. German engineering !! besides .. I did not want to be a MBZ or BMW Cali Clone !! UGH!! AUDI FTW !

Anyone interested in Modding there FWD shoot me a PM .. I've messed with mine some and can share my experiences with ya.

Your story and mine are surprisingly similar.

I desperately need ( Not want ) a quattro MT drive train.

    Re: 7speed

Some people likes 6sp manual and others prefer Tip, and there are others that buy Quattro for a reason (or for no apparent reason) and others prefer Front Track because it suits their everyday driving experiences (better gas mileages/lower insurance premiums).
I have a Front Track 2.0 CVT (loving it), but I also have a manual transmission AWD car and it's a '964' Carrera4...big deal; different strokes for different folks.
