    TB Worth it?

I was wondering if getting a full tb exhaust on a 180 fwd would really be worth all the money spent. I'm planning on going Revo Stg2 but considering the minimal gains I get in buying a whole exhaust system wouldn't it make more sense to just get a newer tp? I understand the concept of "it couldn't hurt", but I just don't see paying the money for a 1/2'' or less of extra piping diameter. As far as sound goes I don't see why you couldn't just go magnaflow muffler with stock exhaust and upgraded tp.

Dude, that wont fit unless you're putting a K04 on. Is your 180 a quattro?

Actually, for the 180 (because it is like the GTI I had), the GHL downpipe is going to give you most of your gains. A catback from there is going to give you more noise, some very high end power, but at the cost of low end torque. You may not like it.

A downpipe, especially on a 180, is almost always worth it. Should be the second mod after a chip. If the 180 uses the same configuration at VWs (GTI, Jetta), it's like a soda straw compared to a paper towel tube. You'll notice big gains even with the stock exhaust. Then you can add the TDI mid-pipe to eliminate the mid-muffler if you want a little more sound and power.

    Sucks that I don't have a 225 ^ or I'd be all over that.

I think the DP with stock exhaust setup would be good for a while, do you think it would bottleneck drastically? That is, until the rest of the exhaust gets put on?

    Re: TB Worth it?

I had the 2.5" downpipe on my GTI with the stock exhaust. Then later added a matching 2.5" catback, all from GHL. I honestly don't remember any significant performance difference between the stock with TDI mid-pipe and the 2.5" catback, other than the noise. The big difference was going from stock to larger downpipe.

If you think about it, gases shrink in volume as they cool. So the further away from the cat, the less volume you need. You should be fine with the stock exhaust.

    Re: TB Worth it?

Put an order in for 42DD 3'' DP and 2.5'' test pipe and hooking that up to stock exhaust till someone comes out with a catback thats worthwhile for the fwd 180. Btw Clipse the Greddy G2s has a whack piping diameter =(

I was wondering though..worth getting a test pipe or hfc?

I live in FL so I don't need to worry about emissions, and the smell doesn't bother me although I've heard you sacrifice a few mpgs in the process, but the amount is negligible.

I understand that a test pipe almost ALWAYS has the upper hand over a stock cat (unless you drive an S2k) but since the cat is considered "high-flow" wouldn't that just be the same thing? I think it just might be the same thing in terms of performance, with the added bonus of passing emissions no?

Edit: just read about how hfc's are known to not be able to withstand temps and have about 1/2 the life of our stock cats? Can anyone confirm this?

Kinda of glad I went with test pipe anyways though...Just wondering if hfc would have been better/same thing/worse.

^ you better get wayne's angled machined block to avoid the CEL with the testpipe. i know techtonics tuning has their FWD 180 TT exhaust using borla muffler's. you myte want to check that out.

Well thats a good idea but I'm not worried about throwing a CEL, I'm getting the exhaust stuff done before I chip so no worries.

I've checked out the exhaust they have I've seen the link from perf-cafe and frankly $300 for proven gains vs $600 for minimal gains, doesn't seem high on the priority list. Taking care of the Dp/Tp, chip, dv, gauge, and THEN I'll consider just adding on an exhaust before I get my rsb and bbk.

I just think the $600 can be used for something waaayyy better. And the TT will sound nasty enough with dp/tp.
