Mileage calculator haywire...anyone else have this?

I just started noticing my mileage calculator doing weird things. First it started showing two dashes -- when I was coasting and not stepping on the gas. Now it shows that I'm getting something like 96 miles to the gallon when I'm going downhill.

I guess I'll take it in to the shop. The car is less than 2 months old. But just curious if anyone else has had that happen.

lol, rtfm... there are two modes of mileage calculation on your computer. One mode (with the circle and slash through it) calculates the average mileage. The other mode calculates the instantaneous mileage as you are driving and it updates every few seconds (this mode does not average). At times when you are coasting, you may register up to 200.0 MPG but that sample is for the last few seconds of driving.

    That explains a lot! LOL
Thanks for clearing that up. I can't imagine the embarrassment if I would have taken it in!

You're in the "instantanious" mileage mode. It shows what's going on real-time and takes the average of it in a different mode.

I don't really care what my average is, but I like to leave mine in this mode so if I'm cruising in say 4th or 5th gear and it says I'm getting only 20some miles per gallon, it reminds me to upshift to achieve better fuel economy
    Ignorance is bliss.

    oh my...

I'll be nice and say this. The one that changes numbers a lot is a real-time mpg calculator. The one that virtually stays the same is an averaged calculation.
