Will s4 brake rotors (345mm fronts) clear stock 17inch wheels?

    Hi,
I am planning to order the 345mm s4 rotors but still have the stock 17inch wheels. Can anyone confirm they will clear without any issues?

    Thanks.
    Jay

    Eh?

Yes, they will clear the rotors. I'm not sure whether they will clear the calipers because of the little protrusions on each end of the B7 calipers.

Uh, no sorry. If your planning to use the caliper carrier from the S4 it will move the caliper out towards the wheel. Even with 18 titaniums I had to use 3-5mm spacers to clear hitting the back of the wheels, if you call stasis they could probably tell you exactly what you'll need, they sell a kit for the front and rear.

Are you 100% sure that the OEM S4 caliper carriers are at a different horizontal offset that the OEM A4s ? (ie, and therefore rotor hat heights differ as well ?)

My understanding is that they are actually the same offset. Obviously the radial offset from the hub axis is increased to suit the rotor diameter. I'm very sure an oem S4 345mm upgrade will fit behind 17" rims provided the spoke profile clears everything.

I have tried the Stasis 345mm 'Touring kit' upgrade. Their kit actually offsets the OEM A4 caliper carriers by 10mm (horizontally). Their Alcon rotors also have 10mm shorter hats to suit. (10mm shorter than OEM A4 rotors). The Stasis 345mm kit does actually fit behind OEM split 5 spoke rims without spacers (just!). Unfortunately, the kit doesnt fit behind my 19" VMR714s because the spoke curve back in more than the OEM rim does. (would need ~5mm spacers).

New pads will make the caliper move out toward the wheel until they wear down.

If you should upgrade to the S4 rotors and carriers, be aware that it might not fit properly. In my situation, I had OEM S4 rotors and carriers and when installed, the inside top of the caliper was literally sitting on top of the rotor. I had to take a Dremal and grind out a few mm for clearance. Again, all OEM parts and it didn't fit like OEM parts should have.

Bummer. I was just about to purchase the ECS upgrade kit with S4 rotors and caliper carriers. Now I'm not sure if I want to risk it.

Maybe my B7 is "unique" but I tried both carriers from ECS which were Schwaben brand and OEM from Miramar Audi and both had the same results, so I took the Dremal to it.

Me too. Mine weren't rubbing that hard (barely skimming), so I drove them that way. A few thousand miles later, perfect custom clearance!

Oh, and I've seen 17" B6 sport package wheels (5 spokes) with S4 brakes.
