    tial/garrett turbos

anyone here have any experience with the "new" Tial turbos?

I'd be interested to hear any recommended sources, as I think my initial plan of using a Turbonetics GT-K might not have the results I'm looking for. Despite Turbonetics claims of what a superior charger their GT-K's are, contradictory reports from actual owners suggest that they don't spool nearly as fast as other comparable (proven) turbos.

I've been impressed with every Tial product I've ever owned, and like the idea of a lightweight SS, totally V-banded turbo in common Garrett configurations/size.

Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find any prices on these.

    Anyone have any info?

You are going to have a very hard time even finding anyone that has a Tial housing to sell. I did happen to see one first hand when I made a visit to Full-race.

    I'm interested in a gt3582r.
and I like the features of the Tial version.
how much more than a standard 3582r should the Tial cost (considering I can find one at a reasonable price)

Full-Race lists the Tial GT35r turbine housing for $400 but I dont think they stock it.

    Re: tial/garrett turbos

I'll be fabricating my own equal length/low angle merge header/3" downpipe & straight exhaust into a borla, or MIGHT hack up a full titanium exhaust off of an EVO and modify it to fit my B5
-I LOVE the sound and lightweight of Titanium, plus I find it exceptionally nice to work with.
    PLANS=
gt3582r [man I like those Tial snails! -1/2 the weight and V-bands for everything!!!]
, 96lbs injectors, MAS slightly bigger than the Ford Lightning (buying most of this from Chris Tapp, as well as the tuning of course, as I'm wanting to pretty much copy his old setup off that 10 second maroon B5 that you see in his shakedown pass videos.

    what else...
Stroke the engine, Scat rods, Tial 44mmWG, new Tial Q BOV recirculated, meth injection and a bigass Garrett core Front mount.
-port job/bowl work/oversized ferrea/super valves -Inconel/black nitride for intake/exhaust combo is cost effective and EFFECTIVE setup;)
    - nasty bumpstick/adj gear, Aeromotive pump, possibly my Wallbro for now, a plethora of gauges/wideband, Koni coilovers, Hotchkis sways, and I'm going to systematically replace every rubber bushing/worn out suspension component with polyurethane and NEW (respectively.
18" LIGHT wheels shod in Mich. Pilot Sport II's, Sparco Evo seat/5 point/6 point cage, CF hood, Porsche big reds or StopTechs... Lots of shop built goodies.

-havent decided on the clutch/flywheel, but I like to make everything as light as possible, probably Fidanza, and if I can get someone to make me one, a carbon fiber 1 piece driveshaft.

Next weekend is the bottom end/timing belt service and several minor repairs (ABS module + several other usual B5 culprits)

i don't think anyone stocks the housings. not even Tial. they're generally spoken for before they are even cast.. nice peices though. would be nice..

but talk to these guys about your driveshaft needs. should be around $1200 for one and save ~10lbs

    Re: tial/garrett turbos

    thanks for that link.
Last week, I called another driveshaft maker whose website claimed they made custom CF driveshafts, and directed to call for custom applications not listed on their site. I had purchased one of their CF shafts for another AWD car of mine a couple years ago, and was VERY pleased with the results

After being transferred to three different morons (each who asked a series of rhetorical questions, but concluded that they had "better get______ to assist with this" I finally wind up speaking to someone claiming to be an Engineer, who asks the same series of questions, and closes with "well, we don't really do anything for the Audi's"

I won't mention any names, but I will say that they're closeby...

BTW, anyone here know how CF driveshafts are made?
It just so happens that I had been "turned on" to this CF driveshaft maker through a relative of one of their employees (while shipping out a 6.6 ton woodworking machine, the trucker sees my sportscar andproceeds to tell me all about his wife working for this outfit that makes CF driveshafts for all kinds of performance vehicles)
he gives me her direct # and she tells me that they basically cut the CF shaft to length on an abrasive wheel chopsaw, use two part epoxy on the shaft ends/yoke, set in the sun to dry/cure, install their decal and balance the thing a couple hours later. whether this is as easy as it sounds, I have no idea, what I DO know is that the reduction in rotational mass as well as the increaded stiffness make this a modification that yields very noticable results. -worth the $1k-$1200 they typically cost, IMO

As for the Tial turbo, I spoke to Chris Tapp yesterday, and decided that I want to use his tuning/files.
Really nice guy, and he takes the time to be personable as well as getting into enough detail so that someone new to Audi's like myself has a better understanding by the end of the conversation.
Chris sells Tial Sport products, and is working up a price quote for me. He didn't say anything about these housings being unavailable, so I'll have to see what he comes up with

They should be available, a local evo/dsm shop around here just built 3 cars using them.

The 97A4 had a carbon driveshaft stock and it was heavier than the metal ones in later years. Spend money elsewhere.
